Hillary I love you but.....after watching Obamas speech...
It was absolutely obvious that it is HIS TIME.

He was magnificent...and said almost everything we as Americans need to hear.
There is just something special, something almost spiritual, something that YOU KNOW is real about him....

We must give him a chance.

I believe Hillary is capable.. but if that speech Obama just gave didn't bring out a strong feeling of hope and excitement.... a feeling that things can possibly change.... a feeling that just maybe... just maybe we have a chance of changing things in this country.... YOU WERE NOT LISTENTING !...

This is the man we have been waiting for !!

25. We have before us an opportunity for a transformation
As a hardened cynic, I know that Barack Obama will not become the president. We will destroy him, and with him any hope for being rescued from this path to our demise.

107. And yet Obama may just fool them all
with a landslide and then the only thing left to them would be assassination and if that happened the populace might just begin a revolt. If he wins and I think he will everyone has to watch his back with pen and everything we have. The people of Venezuela surrounded the palace when the Bushnicks tried a coop which failed because the people had his back.

121. The only other thing is that the country's economic infrastructure will be in such bad shape
that they might leave him alone and let him have it so that they can then blame the Dems for the collapse. Then they'll make a run again in 2012 to "Save America" from the vast left-wing conspiracy. :eyes:

and the pukes are pumping massive paper into the markets to hold it together till the end of their ruinous reign; Obama and the dems will have to clean up after the theft of the treasury, the massive war debt and the depression the pukes will joyously leave to the incoming. On a bright note FDR did it and I trust the leadership of Obama to do the same.

15. rush limbah-humbug is worse!
limbah-humbug has been promoting for 20 long years the very thing that today the US must figure out how to put behind it. The cost of reactionarky nonsense is staggering, and that's the result of white racists like limbah-humbug terrorising the liberal left- they wanted to bankrupt NOT the federal government, but american society! And they did it!
To give the rage of an honest observer like Rev Wright the stage spotlight when limbah-humbug continues every day to advocate the physical ruination of the country, behind the cameras mind you, where he is thereby safe from the slack jawed ninnys noticing him; the same ninnies who think the pigmedia is liberal. Well it is not liberal. It is represented by limbah-humbug, who is really a traitor, in the purest sense. Reverend Wright is angry at the lying liar media, and the slack jawed ninnies that the lies are told to....

HE's not the one saying "I'll do this" and "I'll do that" and "I'm ready on Day One"
the way Hillary is. This campaign has NEVER been just about Obama -- it's been about
what WE all can do TOGETHER. That's why he has over 1 million donors ... it's a
team thing, not a "me" thing.

63. I'll second that. If I have to hear Hillary scream & yell one more time,
I'll tear out my hair.

Who the heck is coaching her on SPEAKING, aka Giving a Speech??

I am an English professor. I teach Speech class.
We will be using Barack Obama's speech as an example for a long, long time.

As I've told my classes for many years, "You've never been in the presence of good oration."
I'm talking about speech that moves people to act.
I saw both Kennedys give great, moving speeches.
MLK is the model in every speech textbook.
I also think Mario Cuomo is an excellent speaker.
And we've had others... some count Reagan, but these kids missed all of that.
They've been stuck with Bush, and Clinton wasn't very memorable.

I wish Hillary would get some coaching and quit screaming and yelling by the end of her speech.
Maybe I could listen.
She turns me off and I am a voter.

Obama... well, we're talking eloquence.
Thank goodness.

109. Great post, but mentioning Mario Cuomo got me thinking
Back in the early 80's, when Cuomo was still governor, there was a controversy about establishing public housing in Bronxville, NY - an upscale area. Mario Cuomo said that opposing the public housing was OK because it was really about not wanting poor people in their neighborhood. I have never forgiven him for that.

56. I'm a white man...
...and I have a problem with what some white men have done to others whose skin is of a darker shade. I have said "God Damn America" on many occasions (especially over the past 7+ years).

We can, we should, we must be better than we have been in the past.

Read "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn and count how many times you too say God Damn America. The truth is that our leaders in politics and business have done some very unsavory things for personal power and wealth that should be consider extremely "Un-American." Many of the true heroes in American history are people who have seen injustice and evil and said God Damn America and then stood up and tried to make our country a better place instead of a place that allows small-minded, venal, unprincipled men--many of them white--to use the resources and political power of this country to do great evil.

"The United States of America was established as a white society, founded upon the genocide of another race and then the enslavement of yet another." -Jim Wallis

But i must admit i am a little shocked at the vitriolic personal attacks that people are making against fellow Dems. I expect it out in the general blogosphere but in a Dems-only forum I expected better.

Pardon my naivete but I am new here, and unfortunately I do expect better from people who are supposed to be progressive and intellectual members of Thomas Jefferson's party.

132. It's been pretty miserable here since the primary began...
I use the ignore function very frequently now -- next to the name of an offending poster, click on the icon of the person with a red X on it.

I never used the ignore function before the primary, but I have 60-something people on my ignore list now.

I do remind myself that many people who are especially vitriolic ARE plants -- from one campaign or another or from the vast-right wing network of 40-year-old men who live in the basement of their mother's home.

And I try to make sure that I keep my side of the interactions above reproach - I haven't always done so, but I usually manage to not bother engaging with negative energy.

Contrary to the claims of some of my critics, black and white, I have never been so naïve as to believe that we can get beyond our racial divisions in a single election cycle, or with a single candidacy – particularly a candidacy as imperfect as my own.
He was saying specifically that not only is he not the only one who can fix it, but also that he, alone, cannot fix it. It's up to all of us, black and white, male and female, Democrat and Republican, Americans all, to work together fo fix it and to form a more perfect union.

"I don't want to hear how messed up our country is due to blacks, whites, browns and yellow people not getting along. It's not." - I'll go out on a limb here and guess you are white. Are you actually claiming that racism does not exist and that it is still not a major issue in the USA?

Race has been, is, and likely will be a major issue in the US for some time to come. Those that do not see it are both on the "winning" side and willfully ignorant.

As far as Wright having a "problem with the white man"... Try living his life before you judge. If you had lived as a black American over the past 60+ years and DIDN'T have a "problem with the white man", then I would say there was something seriously wrong with you. White people will never know what it is like to be black in America. Period. The most ignorant whites among us share two main traits in that area: They do not realize that they have no understanding of the black situation and they do not try to understand - they rather consider it a "non-issue". Welcome to that "elite" club.

I like that...

"it's not you. it's us".

That really describes the way I feel about this, too.

Went to hear Obama in Austin a year ago - at Town Lake. Just to see - liked the convention speech, the books, but thought why not see - so I drove from Houston. Whenever I can see a candidate in person I try to do it - get a more complete image of who they are. Frankly, thought I'd go for Hillary.

About ten minutes into the speech, I was knocked out. I had never heard a politician say - it's yours, not mine. It was powerful then, powerful now.
I thought this man understands democracy. Practices democracy. Doesn't need to "bring" democracy.

70. Yes. One speech
Nothing else he's said or done has had any impact on anyone, because everyone's been so blown away by every word and deed performed by Senator Clinton.

Is it just possible that "one speech" was the catalyst, or perhaps the deciding factor, that helps one to decide in favor of Obama?

Or must someone be a cultist in order to support him for President?

Where do you get that idea from? I am far from an automaton, and I thought the speech was great. And I welcome any and all points of view and discussion.

So who exactly are you addressing and mocking? The imaginary "Obamabots" in your head?

Your post is a piece of shit. It says absolutely nothing. It is a caricature of a caricature of something that does not exist.

If you have another view, then by all means, let's discuss it. But do not lump me and millions of others into a class of people that only exists in your mind.

This shit played out in the 7th grade. If you are past that age, you should be ashamed.

23. There's this part of me...
... that feels so strongly that we might be robbed of Obama's optimism, his leadership, his thoughtfulness, that somehow the country might not be altogether ready for him.

The other part of me is bigger, the one who thinks he'll have a rendezvous with history, that we all will, and we will emerge a stronger, better, more unified nation. That this is the time for someone like Barack Obama.

Great post (and screenname!), RethugAssKicker.

119. It seems as if we are not the ones who have growing up to do
I am not certain what your problem is - but laying low for years and then popping up with a stream of diatribes against people who disagree with you is NOT winning you any friends on this board, and is not winning anyone to your cause. Accusing people who disagree with you of belonging to a cult, of 'swooning' over a candidate, etc., is patently false and just plain petulant. Your posts sound like a slightly more eloquent version of a tantrum by a four-year old. Take your own advice and try to be more mature.

Not an issue with Obama. He's the real deal. And all of the naysayers will, you can rest assured, be telling their grandkids how they helped put the first black president in office, when all they really did was create roadblocks.

I'm sure I will get flamed for this, but describing any political leader as "almost spiritual" scares the sh!t out of me.

Does America now dictate where it is acceptable for people to worship?
It is clear that Wright is a lot more than what MSM's looped 6 minute tape is trying to portray.

Since when do we as a nation, dictate where a person can or can not worship? Is this a Religious test? Because that is unconstitutional.

...on all of the most important issues, he certainly will get the democratic party nomination and most likely will win the presidential election. As the Obama speaking the truth and offering real solutions will also prove to at last be a leader this country has needed and longed for over the past four and one half decades. I want to hear more from Obama.

67. He is encouraging us to be a bigger part of our gov't
and to demand more of elected officials. His transparency platform will allow us to hold our legislators much more accountable for their actions. He is a true leader, regardless of how few years he has been in the Beltway. I look at that as a positive in his case, as he is about as smart as any candidate we have ever had, and has natural ability to lead. I hope we do not miss this chance at real, substantive change in our politics. It'd be a shame to keep asking for the SOS that has this country in near-shambles already.

92. Obama needs to say to her what Bill said to Papa Bush in 1992: "We salute yur service...
to our country, but now it's time to step aside and let another generation take the wheel."

Even though Hillary isn't that old, the strategy of compromise and capitulation with the Far Right is over.

Obama may have a more conciliatory tone, but in practice he will probably reach further, and invite the right to come along or miss the boat.

The Gettysburg Address. I have a dream. Ask not what your country can do for you... etc etc. It's a landmark achievement in our nation's history.
