Obama's story about Ashley

That was the part of Obama's speech that summed up , to me, why this
country needs Obama as the next president.

Ashley, an Obama volunteer, a white woman, tells her story about why she
is working to help elect Obama. Her saga as a child living in poverty in the
face of an ailing mother, has impelled her to the candidate of real hope.

She asks the volunteers sitting around the table, why they are volunteering
for Obama. The old black man was the last to answer. He answered- because
of you Ashley, because of you.

America needs a uniter. America needs to heal. America needs Barack Obama.

2. And the brilliance was its position and the fact that he had not over used the story
it was genius

4. It hit hard home to Barack

and me too. This has obviously stayed with him through the campaign. I
don't think he was trying to be a genius. I think it really affected him and
it only confirmed to him why he needs to do this.

I don't think people realize how he's put himself out there. While he doesn't
have much baggage, he knew the race card (and racists) would go after him-
just because he's black.

3. I'd heard the story before but his positioning of it at the close was great
It still moved me, even though I've probably heard him mention this in
speeches two or three times. That's the power of his speeches -- they
sound new even when elements of them have been used before.

6. All Obama Volunteers Are Asked At Some Point To Tell Their "Story"...
And why they are supporting Barack. I think it's a very smart approach, it personalizes the campaign and gives each person some insight into the other volunteers they are working with.

7. Yeah, that hit me, too
As a public school teacher and administrator, I see stories like this too, too often. The kids who 'skip lunch' because they can't afford to buy anything, the ones who come in for weeks on end wearing the same outfit, the ones working not to pay for a car or the latest X-Box game, but because they have to help put food on the table.

If it makes me a cultist or a fainting violet or whatever else some supposedly compassionate person on my ignored list wants to throw at me, then fine. But I was moved, because I've seen those faces and those kids are what we are supposed to be fighting for.

9. Kids walking on the backs of their shoes with bloody heels...

instead of asking their parents for new ones. This discussion has to happen, so
things can change. Thanks for all you do.
