CBS's lead coverage of Obama wasn't very flattering
Edited on Tue Mar-18-08 09:13 PM by depakid
I almost never watch the American corporate media, but I was curious to see how they'd spin the Wright speech.

It was basically a hit piece, using the worst bits of Wright's video's along with Obama's weakest points.

Later they aired two quick blurbs selected from "average Americans" on the street, who weren't impressed.

Seems to me that Obama's honeymoon is over, and the so called "mainstream" media is going to keep this "controversy" going and milk it for all its worth for their Republican patrons.

Not that I expected anything different, but it looks to me like we're going to keep hearing this shit- all the way until November if he's the nominee.

2. Strange how the Obama folk had no problems with the media...
so long as the coverage was glowing.

9. None Of This Was Supposed To Happen.......
Hillary was supposed to win the nomination going away. It was supposed to look good for the Dems that we had a black candidate running as well - but he was supposed to be window dressing and help out with garnering the black vote for Hillary in Nov. This is why the MSM was decent to Obama. He wasn't supposed to be so successful. He wasn't supposed to catch on. None of this was expected and now the corporate MSM don't know what to do. This may also couple into the Mich/Florida debacle. Hillary was supposed to win hands down and Howard Dean shouldn't have had to deal with this problem.

Bottom line - we are still a racist society and it's sad that Barack has to be the fall guy for this. Barack's speech today was from the heart and rallying - but it looks like a lot of the MSM has lined up against him and are doing everything they can to throw him under the bus.

Barack wanted to remain above the race issue. That's why he tried to run his campaign without resorting to race. But all along he and his campaign was drawn into the issue. Today's speech was an attempt to put it all out there on the table. Race problem - yeah - we have a race problem in this country. But it's not the same race problem as it was 40 years ago or 30 years ago or 20 years ago or 10 years ago or for that matter 2 years ago. (Who would have thought a black man would be doing so well in a presidential bid?) Racism is generational and with each passing generation - the wounds heal more and will ultimately not be an issue. Occasionally through this healing process a scab gets torn off. That's what happened here. Barack Obama today dressed that wound again. Though not as bad as it was originally - it needed attention - it needed some alcohol thrown on it - and it stung a little - but it's back on its way of healing. This time - hopefully - faster and more fully than before.

The MSM provoked Barack into having to put this out there. He had to try to put the issue to rest. It was an historic speech - but the MSM won't let this issue go away. They will keep fanning the fires of racism.

I had a friend from the UK tell me just last week that the primary race between HRC and BO was racist. His proof was the black vote BO got in the recent Mississippi primary - 92% of the blacks of the state voted for BO.

I countered and said that this was no more racist as the Poles in a Polish community voting for the candidate with an 'ski' in his or her name. Or the Irish voting for a candidate with a name that includes a Mc/Mac/ or O'xxxxx in it. People vote for their own people. Poles for Poles. Irish for Irish. Black for Black.

Just like the Irish were first discriminated against when they arrived on the shores of the U.S. - that is a thing of the past. So to will happen with this. But mark my word this country will find a new race, nationality, group to discriminate against as - history repeats itself. I think George W. Bush has helped us here - it's dem ayrabs now!!!

So - where are we now - about 10 hours after the speech? I still have hope that Obama can win the nomination and win the GE in November. This country needs change so bad. And if this speech is any indication - we will have change if Obama is our president. I know of no other candidate or politician with the courage to do what Obama did today. That's why I'm an Obama supporter. I don't think he'll hesitate putting any issue out there.

Unfortunately, the ones in power - don't want change - are afraid of change - and will do everything they can to prevent change. Let's keep this country in the 60's is what they want.

I'm hopeful that the American people will not listen to the pundits and vote with their hearts. Let's hope the people speak.

11. Have you seen the cable pundits.
They still are blinded by him.
Someone in the media has to have a skeptical eye on this man.
He should not be getting a free pass.

4. It was basically unwatchable
I had to turn it off after the Obama coverage, when they started spewing misinformation about the American economy.

6. Cable news coverage that I've seen tonight has been very favorable,
even CNN. I watched/listened to NBC Nightly News too, and it was also very fair and even favorable.

7. this is heaven for the media - a feeding frenzy
I think your right, the media sees blood in the water and they are going to continue this Rev. Wright stuff as long as the ratings are good, Obama is going to get chewed up good.
