Not This Time...
Edited on Wed Mar-19-08 06:13 AM by Jeff In Milwaukee
Not This Time.

I think that was the part of Obama's speech yesterday that made their blood run cold over at the Republican National Committee. In that part of the speech, Obama was speaking directly to disaffected White Voters -- machinists in Michigan, farmers in Kansas, technicians in Pennsyvania -- those who anger the RNC has lovingly cultivated over the past thirty years.

Obama was talking directly to them. I understand that you're angry and why you're angry. Your anger is justified, but we need to do something more about it. And then he cut to the core of the Democratic platform -- jobs, healthcare, financial security. Rather than be angry about race, let's cross racial lines and work toward our common good.

I can imagine the collective gasp that caused at RNC Headquarters. Holy Crap! What if a candidate (and a black candidate at that) were able to appeal to these voters on the basis of their shared economic and class values? Would these voters ever vote for a nakedly pro-business candidate again?

Believe me. They're going to hit Obama with everything they can think of to prevent this kind of a seismic shift in the electorate. Everything except race, because they know that Obama effectively took that tool our of their toolbox yesterday.

1. And he's going to address Iraq today and the economy tomorrow.
Let the republicans nip at his heels.... Obama is leading like the leader of our country should.

2. Pretty funny...
that the people who tried a cheap political trick, like trying to defame and denigrate Obama's formar pastor, have now solidifying his position as the front-runner.

5. Great post, Jeff, and you're right. Obama is in for lots of slime
from the r/w; it's already started. I just know he'll hold his head high and keep on doing what he's been doing so effectively.

6. Oh, they repukes have swarmed already.
They are all over the freeper boards and on corporate media saying things like he threw his grannie under the bus. And He's a white racist etc, etc, etc...

But the truth is he appealed to America's better nature. Something the bushes and repukes never do. They appeal to people's greed, hate and fear. Obama appealed to American's sense of justice, fair play and better nature. It will be interesting to see which side of America wins out.
