Politico Poll: Amongst Progressives - (O) 72 (C) 16
Barack Obama is the overwhelming favorite for president among progressive activists, according to a Politico.com straw poll conducted at the Take Back America conference held in Washington this week.

Seventy-two percent of those polled preferred to see Obama nominated as the Democratic party’s presidential candidate, with rival Hillary Rodham Clinton claiming a scant 16 percent of support and 12 percent of respondents saying either would be fine in the general election against Republican nominee-in-waiting John McCain. The poll, conducted by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research, surveyed 413 respondents from March 17 to 19.

Obama is also viewed as the Democrat most likely to defeat McCain, with 69 percent of respondents believing he has the best chance of beating the Arizona Republican, compared to just 15 percent who believe Clinton can defeat McCain.

5. Indeed. They are the favorites of thinking individuals
who understand that to not be progressive is to stagnate and die. Unless you're a Republican or a DLC Democrat who believes that moving backward is progress. lol

12. I admit to not living up to Obama's standards when it comes to...
...embracing all people ~ I avoid those addicted to the status quo like the plague. It's just too depressing!

You know, the ones who still stand for the principles on which this party has operated for the last century! Like THEY mean anything anymore. Just ask Hillary DLC Clinton. ;)

11. If elected Obama will not \"rule out\" using private security companies like Blackwater in Iraq
I do wonder why some of the \"progressives\" are so naive

They sure did not read the nation

\"A senior foreign policy adviser to leading Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Obama has told The Nation that if elected Sen. Obama will not \"rule out\" using private security companies like Blackwater Worldwide in Iraq. The adviser also said that Sen. Obama does not plan to sign on to legislation that seeks to ban the use of these forces in US war zones by January 2009, when a new President will be sworn in.!\"

http://www.thenation.com/doc/20080317/scahill

Hillary has signed onto the legislation and supports banning such contractors in Iraq...

\"\"From this war\'s very beginning, this administration has permitted thousands of heavily-armed military contractors to march through Iraq without any law or court to rein them in or hold them accountable. These private security contractors have been reckless and have compromised our mission in Iraq. The time to show these contractors the door is long past due. We need to stop filling the coffers of contractors in Iraq, and make sure that armed personnel in Iraq are fully accountable to the U.S. government and follow the chain of command,\" said Senator Clinton.

17. Hillary will not ban contractors. Obama's idea is to regulate them.
I doubt that he'll be able to do that very quickly.

And, it's your assumptions that are naive.

18. And then some. Working his campaign has been quite an experience.
I love how community-based it is. It's getting folks to work together in their own neighborhoods. This alone does so much to break down race, class and educational divides. It's incredible. It makes me really proud of our country.

19. If this is a true poll
And I'm not doubting it, then it shows how the democratic party is split. I believe the party is split about half and half progressive and centrists per the number of registered democratic voters in the party. If Clinton or Obama is to win in november either one will need to draw more voters on either side.
