Obama's speech was a campaign speech, not a civil rights speech
and there was an agenda behind it. Most people realize it was nothing more than damage control and all it did is reinforced his love for 'Uncle Wrong'.

Thank God Hillary stayed in the race.

7. most people: those on the Right who would never vote for him to begin with...
and those Democrats who think he is stealing Hillary's White House rights...

his supporters are glad he said what he said...and were going to be behind him no matter what he said...

and there may be several million people who listened and found something they either didn't know or feel about Obama, or heard some things that have made them consider looking at the Presidential contest in a different light...

10. Can you grasp the concept: "Multi-tasking"?
Civil rights and campaigning are NOT, repeat NOT mutually exclusive.
At least not for truly progressive Democrats.

21. Wow, that is really sad.
If it was a campaign speech, he wouldn't have mentioned Wright 13 times.

If it was a campaign speech he wouldn't have challenged Americans to think.

Of course, going by Hillary's demographics, that thinking part might be kind of hard for you.

Have fun voting for McCain.

23. It was both. It was NOT just a campaign speech, as it was not politically expedient.
If it was only about winning the election, his best course would've been to simply give a brief press conference in which he denounced Wright and broke all ties to him. What Obama did instead was look at the bigger issue of race in America, which is a risky proposition from a political standpoint. But he felt the message was important. He felt the civil rights message needed to be put out there, even if it wasn't the safest, most politically expedient course of action.

27. It was both and it did both very, very well.
Of course there was an agenda. He's running for POTUS. But it was much more than damage control and IMO it did much more than that.
