When did David Gergen become such a reasonable and intelligent guy?

"Obama is closer to the nomination today than he was 48 hours ago."

"I don't think America wants a campaign where we're watching an endless loop of Rev. Wright for the next six months."

Wow..... I think that Repug is actually an Obamaniac.

3. Which will be counterproductive for them... the "shock" value will be gone, and America will have...
...moved on.

By July, people will be tuning out anything related to Wright..... completely.

11. Exactly. They know they need fresh meat.
If they continue to run the same crap over and over, people will just roll their eyes and flip to another channel... And probably become KO Fans, LOL.

16. And the public will get tired as hell of it
It will have its effect and be done, but it is already plastered 24/7 now. Heck David Gergen was in the midst of saying how horrible it would be if the media continued to play the video non-stop and what did CNN do? Split the screen to the video during that very comment.

It will get old fast.

He's a rare bird.

He's a moderate Republican.

Sort of like the Clintons, but he's honest enough to use an (R) after his name.

6. He's an Obamican? Actually, I don't think that's it
I just think he is more honest than the others, and less of a whore. Those others were the ones trying to say....No, this will dog Obama, forever, and ever and ever and ever....instead of allowing people to come up with that decision via their own thoughts.

Did y'all see DeeDee Myers? She must have secretly endorsed Hillary.....but fakes like she neutral.

It amazes me that CNN would be so obvious that they would stack the deck with one Black Republican, One Hillary supporter, and David Gergen to discuss, "Obama's political survival". Guess he didn't have much of a choice.....but to be reasonable and fair.

15. He's advised repugs and dems, stated in 93 he was independent
From Wikipedia

David Richmond Gergen (born May 9, 1942 in Durham, North Carolina) was a political consultant and presidential advisor during the Republican administrations of Nixon, Ford, and Reagan. He was also a campaign staffer for George H.W. Bush's 1980 presidential campaign. Gergen also served as an adviser to Democratic President Bill Clinton, first as a Counselor on both foreign policy and domestic affairs and then as Special International Advisor to then-Secretary of State Warren Christopher.<1> While usually identified as a Republican, on his appointment in 1993, Gergen stated that he was actually an independent.<2>

David Gergen is a political contributor to CNN and frequently appears on Anderson Cooper 360. He also appears on MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews. He moderated PBS's World@Large discussion program for two seasons.<3>

Gergen earned his bachelor's degree from Yale University in 1963 and his law degree from Harvard University in 1967. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is also a regular attendee of the Bohemian Grove in Monte Rio, California.

Following his years in public service, Gergen has been actively involved in higher education. As of 2006 Gergen is a professor of public service at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government and director of its Center for Public Leadership. He serves as editor-at-large at U.S. News & World Report. A native of Durham, North Carolina, Gergen has also taught at Duke University, where he is now a trustee. Gergen served as Elon University's inaugural Isabella Cannon Distinguished Visiting Professor of Leadership and as the Chair of the Elon University School of Law Advisory Board.

Gergen's frequent television appearances as a political commentator and pundit have occasionally made him the target of satire. In a biting critique of Sunday morning political talk shows, humorist Joe Bob Briggs made the observation that David Gergen bore an uncanny resemblance to The Cat in the Hat.

Gergen served in the U.S. Navy, and is a well-known proponent of mandatory national service (also known as a draft or conscription).

4. Gergen has always been pretty fair
Even though he has a long history of working for Republicans (and Bill Clinton), he has always considered himself an independent. And I recall he was among the most insightful TV pundits during the '04 election. I've always liked his work.

Pundits tend to be rather moronic, but Gergen is pretty straight-forward. No bullshit from this guy.

5. Some people still put our country before their own politics.
To see someone in the MSM do it is a godsend.

I will listen to rational, intelligent people, despite what their leanings are. Gergen, Maddow and Robinson are the only people I'm interesting in listening to anymore, MSM-wise.

unfortunately, some people only listen to those with whom they think they agree. THAT doesn't serve a democracy well at all.

19. Gergen was also Bill Clinton appointee
Gergen served as an adviser to President Bill Clinton, first as a Counselor on both foreign policy and domestic affairs and then as Special International Advisor to then-Secretary of State. Clinton made an excellent choice. I don't think I know any republican who is as fair as Dave Gergen is. I have always liked him.

18. Did you hear what he said last night?
Obama has a way to giving speeches and talking to voters as if they were adults. How refreshing, Gergen remarked. Most politicians simply do not do this.

24. I think Gergen has always been a reasonable guy.
I first became aware of him when he was a regular on the MacNeil-Lehrer NewsHour 15 or more years ago. He was their conservative commentator (Mark Shields was the liberal one). And even though I disagreed with a lot of his positions, I always respected him and I always looked forward to what he had to say. He's a thoughtful guy and a straight-shooter.

Also, I think he's an independent, not a Republican.

26. yes -- and 2-3 times now he has encouraged us...
to actually look at the issues -- particularly around Jim Crow laws and so on.

i remember when Bill Clinton brought him on, thinking "sheeesh", but then hearing that he really was a centrist who wanted the best for America.

never thought i'd see the day where he and huckabee had the most reasoned responses on this.
