McCain Aide Suspended for Distributing Racist Obama Video

Sadly, the racist whisper campaign continues. This time though, an aide to Republican presidential candidate John McCain has been proven to be directly involved. TPM Election Central has the story:

A McCain campaign aide actively pushed an incendiary, racially-charged video that uses the controversial words of Barack Obama's pastor to tar Obama as unpatriotic -- despite the fact that McCain himself has suggested that Obama shouldn't be held accountable for Wright's views.

The aide, Soren Dayton, who works in McCain's political department, has been suspended from the campaign, a McCain spokesperson, Jill Hazelbaker, confimed to me.

The move by McCain's aide could create controversy for the McCain camp, because the video itself is thoroughly reprehensible -- it interweaves footage of Obama explaining why he won't wear the American flag pin, Wright saying "God damn America," Malcolm X, and Obama's wife saying that his candidacy has made him proud of America for the "first time."

Suspended? Instead of fired? Well, that is a maverick move. I'd say he should have been fired on the spot. No, don't clean out your desk, don't say your goodbyes. Put your keys on the desk, get your coat, and head to the door. It must not be tolerated. These racist whisper/viral video campaigns must be stopped in their tracks. If any political operatives are involved, I'd say you are "on notice."

McSame is a nasty little man. I am mindful of the ugly little joke he told about Chelsea/HC/Janet Reno. A real mark of the man. I don't doubt for a minute he would be capable of having a staffer do this and then 'suspending' them. The fact that he is best pals with LIEberman is also telling. These two would do and say anything. Now as to your theory, I understand they're available to all, but who pushed the issue with pointed finger is what has to be asked.

This isn't just the footage from Trinity UCC, it sounds like the video this post refers to is one that uses the Wright footage along with other footage conservatives think will scare/alienate Republicans from voting for Obama or abstaing from voting for McCain. It would have been helpful for the OP to include a link to the Kos entry, or a link to the video it's talking about.

17. yes, you're right...once all those clips got out, these 2 guys put together a

composite...they were not the source for the original flap. Stuff gets out there during any campaign, it's not some conspiracy...it's politics and people find stuff...I'm sure the original source is not one person or organization.

Getting a recorded Wright sermon isn't too difficult. The clergy all learn from each other; favorite sermons stay in circulation for years. It's a little like the Deadheads' concert trading clubs. And even non-clergy can trade sermons.

This particular video, the one that got the aide suspended, was an edited Conservative hit piece. But the source material is readily available.

shown first on their network. The video that the McCain staffer forwarded on Twitter was an amateur

campaign-style video created for online distribution by someone using crazy Uncle Wright clips along with, clips of Michelle and clips of

Obama with his hands in front of him while everyone else on stage had their hand over their heart.
