Many have said Mr Obama screwed up not throwing Mr Wright away....
Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 05:26 PM by ThatBozGuy
They say he knew this guy was politically bad for his campaign, he should have distanced himself a longtime ago and there are even those who have said it was bad judgment politically that that he didn't sweep him under a rug and sanitize his relationship with him to mainstream himself to run for president.

I disagree with these kinds of people but was torn on why.

Because while it was a lapse in judgment not to "mainstream" himself, it is his overriding principal that he is who he is, not a politician doing "the dance", not putting on a costume to fit a mold of what "mainstream" is.

The typical political play was hide who you are and lie to mainstream yourself.

Mr Obama instead said, to paraphrase "I disagree with him fundamentally on these issues but he is still family to me", that is integrity, and character to not sacrifice people for your own gains, stand and be measured on who you are not who you can pretend to be is not a sign of bad judgment, but a good person.

From a purely political animal standpoint I say he should have dodged it all, but on the fundamental side I REALLY DO WANT A PRESIDENT WHO IS A GOOD PERSON.

1. I would disrespect someone who disowned family members based on differences in opinion...
Throwing family members and close friends under a bus to appease the MSM is not a great testament to character

2. If he threw Wright away, they'd be attacking him for "throwing him under the bus."
This man who married him, baptized his kids, and now he just tosses him out for political expediency? What an asshole.

That was never an option.

3. I have to agree, Obama Fogives Racist Wright but Calls For Imus Firing
Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 05:31 PM by chocome
In an interview with ABC News Wednesday afternoon, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., called for the firing of talk radio host Don Imus. Obama said he would never again appear on Imus\\\' show, which is broadcast on CBS Radio and MSNBC television.

I for one, see the Imus case in light of this story;
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2007/04/11/obamas_silence_on_imus_alarms_some_blacks/

The episode is the first test of how Obama -- who is of mixed-race background -- is handling the contentious issue of race in his presidential campaign. Even as polls have shown other Democrats attracting a large share of the black vote, Obama has steered clear of the kind of activism symbolized by Sharpton and the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who were both highly visible in the Imus episode but whose aggressiveness on race issues has alienated some white voters in the past.

But with Obama battling other Democrats -- most notably Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York -- for the support of black voters, the candidate\\\'s reticence on the Imus issue set off alarms yesterday among some black activists who are anxious to see him more forcefully push for racial justice

6. Because I hate Joey Scar so badly, I tuned into Imus on my computer

radio. It was the morning after Obama's race speech. Imus loved it, said it was well written, well delivered and well overdue. Almost lost my coffee on that one. He meant it too, kept talking about it all morning.

7. I must come from the wrong side of the tracks.
No one I know is always saying the things I like. Why do we have to think alike? I do think that the people who believe every thing they are told to do in church will say Obama did the wrong thing. I think their are churches that tell you what to do and think. I grew up in the Congregational Church (UCC ) and we were told to think for our self. Just the type man I want for President. A man who can hear many things and still keeps his own ways. He will have problems running vs. a man who is backed by people who ate Freedom fries. I am getting sick of this whole race with Clinton. If Obama ever gets to run for the Nov. vote I will be way to ill to get to the polls.
