Are we now to believe that this is just one more teaching he has not heard for 20 years? I am beginning to wonder what part of this church he does believe in.

1. the thing is

that a lot of black people are more conservative than people think they are. The fact that this church espouses creationism doesn't surprise me. I'd be interested to know what they think about homosexuality.

4. I believe that Rev. Wright started the first AIDS ministry in the area.
It was not a popular thing at the time.

5. They probably aren't big on homosexuality
based on the Newsom snub.

10. Sorry, you are wrong. Jeremiah Wright began a gay and lesbian outreach ministry.
And took a lot of flack for it.

Not going to be able to peg the "homophobic bigot" criticism on him.

14. Rev. Wright supports Gay Marriage
In 2005 the UCC Synod created a proposal in favor of Gay marriage. Rev. Wright, as well as Rev. Otis, is Pro equal marriage rights for all people. It is one reason that conservatives were attacking this congregation and its clergy PRIOR to the media's non-stop playing the clips of Sermons coupled with faux pundit outrage.

16. Obama's church is quite liberal on homosexuality, much more so than Methodists, and others
(HRC is a Methodist, when she is not with the Fellowship....)

7. For someone with the spaghetti monster icon, you sure do carry a lot of water for this church.
I guess some folks will suck down and swallow anything for their new god.

I don't get all worked up over clear and obvious bullshit like this pastor nonsense.

6. I would venture to say that most brands of xtianity would advance some type
of creationism. I mean, it's right there in the bible.

Seven days, then he rested - and it went downhill from there.

17. Sure. Catholics aren't creationists.
Of course, their spiritual advisor is a nazi who defends child molestors, so you're kind of painting yourself into a corner here.

19. Well, yes, but even Catholicism believes that God created the Earth.
They just incorporate evolution into the works and basically say that Genesis is "based on a true story".

Believe me, with Adam and Eve, there is no original sin. No original sin means no immaculate conception. No immaculate conception and no original sin means no need for God to sacrifice his son to die for our sins.

It's certainly not the crackpot version that says "It happened just like the Bible says!!!" of creationism, but it is creationism.

11. Some people think that one can believe in
evolution and creationism -- they just believe that the biblical creation story was not a literal account. I don't believe in creationism at all, but a lot of Americans do. Maybe Obama does, at least on some level.

Not that I'm doubting you, but I'm surprised a UCC church believes in creationism.

to believe they believe in literal creationism...
