Keith Olbermann needs to get a freaking grip!
Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 07:45 PM by jlake
"This could blow up into something as big as Watergate"
"How fast can congress begin investigations?"

Obama's passport file was breached.... okay, it's a story but come on!
He really needs to calm the fuck down....

This could be a serious issue, but from the looks of what happened, it was a breach and supervisors were noted immediately.

130. I guess I'm not expressing my point clearly. People's passport files are inappropriately
accessed on a regular basis. Mine was inappropriately accessed 1 time that I am aware of.
I am not saying that mine is breached "all the time" but that it happens "all the time" to different people.

And, no.

What an odd coincidence that it happens that so many posters on this thread have had their passport files breached and yet it's the first time I've heard of it.

Guess it happens to everyone. Everybody does it. The people that poked around Obama's files were just over-zealous curious staffers.

connected to a political operative, shit hits the fan and we're back in the 1970's again. Since no one knows if it is yet, and in the end we will know, you cannot discount it just because you want to. This is a bad, big, awful thing and for those of us with memories, it is deja vu all over again.

...from what I read, it sounds like that as soon as the records were accessed, a trigger notified the supervisors of the breach. KO and the Bots are acting like this goes to the highest levels of government, explains all the so-called dirty tricks against their Jesus, and so forth. Happened to Bill Clinton's records also.

58. And watergate started out
simply as a burglary. I reserve my judgment as to just how serious this situation is. With that said, there should be an investigation - an independent investigation to assure that this is simply what the State Dept. says - a case of some nosy contractors.

Unfortunately, without an independent investigation, how do you know this is not something more?

I'm just saying.....

Peace!

Is it true Obama's own people broke the story? Saving one last controversy in their pocket? They spent it too soon if you ask me.

What part of it bugs you more, the photo of Bill Clinton with Rev. Wright, or the picture of Corpsman Wright attending to LBJ's hospital bed?

Is it really "newsworthy" that a member of the Trinity congregation got pissed and started a (pretty fascinating) blog?

55. Obviously this thread is proving just what a tool of the Hillary campaign you are
if you can't see the seriousness of it and you think the timing is suspicious as if some way the Obama campaign is behind this. You know you would be whistling a different tune if it were Hillary and seeing how much you dislike Obama you would probably be pointing fingers at his campaign instead of the GOP.

46. OK, let me get this straight -- why do you think this ISN'T a big deal?
Considering this is the BFEE we're talking about -- the same lame crew that
HRC likes to rail against when it suits her politically -- WHY is it that
you think Obama's campaign should just turn a blind eye to this intrusion?

I just don't fucking get it -- even misdeeds of the Bush Gang are LESS of
an issue than whether this changes the subject away from Pastorgate? If
you're wondering why the Clinton campaign is so disliked, you should look
at your reaction. It's more important to get to the bottom of what happened
here than it is to play another loop of Rev. Wright or the latest poll that
may benefit your candidate.

As for olbermann....I've stopped watching him. I'm a Clinton supporter but I do like and respect Obama. If Olbermann were a Clinton supporter and constantly slamming Obama, I'd hate it just as much. Anybody who so blatantly and unfairly bashes a democratic candidate, ANY democratic candidate, is hurting the party. It will be very interesting to see what Keith does with his show if Clinton wins the nomination. His show will have to be a full hour of oddball (the most annoying thing on TV) and celebrity news.

92. Contract employees getting into official records they have no business getting into
KO is right to be making a big fuss. It is an outrage and a security breach that should never happen.

Who do those 'contract' employees really answer too? Do they look forward to a lucrative job with some company who stands to benefit if Obama does not get elected? Could there POSSIBLY be reason sensitive and lawfully privileged information would be a marketable commodity? YOU BET YOUR ASS; a whole lot of reasons. And Obama just now finds out about this breach? There should be a LOT of shit heading for a fan!

The breach of sensitive records (by a CONTRACT employee) regarding the travels of a US Senator who is running for President is not same ol same ol. What damage could be done by releasing any visa requests the Senator may have pending if the info falls into the hands of people who would do him harm? It is fucking serious.

No matter what has been done to, said about, insinuated or flat at lied about Obama, somebody around here has some flipping excuse or thinks it should be blown off, and all those who pooh-pooh these strange occurrences seem to be supporters of the other candidate. One HAS to wonder at what travesty you would finally be outraged.

I know you are important to you, and maybe even a few other people, but frankly, IT IS NOT THE SAME as someone taking a lookie at where YOU'VE been (if that really happened) as outrageous as that would be. Unless you are Hillary Clinton, or John McCain, it most certainly NOT the same.

100. Ignorefest 2008 or "The Night The Hillary Backers Jumped The Shark"
SO many Hillary backers on here are freaking OUT over this headline on Obama, that I'm introducing many of them finally to the ignore feature. Calm down folks, it's not like Hillary had much of a chance anyway, but several of you are acting like this is a boon for Obama - if it is whatever, but the bigger story is his friggin info was hacked multiple times at Condi Department USA!

102. Ever hear of Watergate?
1. It's a BREAKING story and that's how they are treated.

2. It's possible evidence of the GOP attempting to tamper with a possible Democratic nominee.

3. They sat on the information for MONTHS.

This is at least as big as the Valerie Plame story and look at the coverage that got.

104. Not another soul on TV or radio has declared this "As big as Watergate"
Possible evidence and facts are accepted.... and you know what, I hope this is as big as Watergate.... but at this point in time, it is not a responsible statement to make.

113. I didn't declare it to be anything. I'm just pointing out this is how Watergate began.
There are definite similarities. Compromised information. Either a failure to report or a willful attempt to coverup.

This could become a devastating story. So, should Olbermann be faulted for spending nearly the entire hour on it? Absolutely not.

Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 08:31 PM by rainbow4321
people probably skimmed over the news as well without raising an eyebrow, also. Talk to us in a few days/weeks/months when more facts come out about this crime. We're about, what, 30 minutes into passportgate right now...

If this becomes as big as Watergate or not --- Keith Olbermann was IRRESPONSIBLE in declaring "This is a big as Watergate" as the story breaks.

123. wait till tomorrow
Mr. Short Attention Span.

it was breaking news just scant minutes after 5PM EDT...

KO is the only major national newscast with lead time enough to do a story after the News Dump Witching Hour The Day Before A Semi-Holiday (i.e., 5PM EDT on Holy Thursday)...

pretty intellectually dishonest to say "not another soul on TV or radio" etc etc etc.

I'm old enough to watch the 2 years of the Nixon administration crumbling in print and by Senate hearings. I can say Keith is on the money.
It slowly unfolded, revealing all the pieces that eventually led to Nixon resigning. Amateurs to today pros.

BTW, none covering the events of that time looked AS GREAT AS KEITH!
