A funny thing happened in New York this week - Is the Clinton campaign facing problems in NY?
DemcomWatch had this little note burried in its pages this week

http://demconwatch.blogspot.com/

March 12, 2008: NY Governor Eliot Spitzer resigns. Down 1 to 795. Note that the DNC has now confirmed that David Paterson is not resigning his DNC seat.

In effect this gives Obama another delegate and brings the total needed from 2024.5 to 2024. (A net 1.5 delegate for Obama)

If Patterson resigns his DNC then he would be a superdelegate as Govenor and the NY party could appoint another delegate for Hillary.

Could this mean that there is some softening in support by African Americans in New York for Hillary. There must have been enormous pressures from the Hillary campaign to get another delegate.

If Hillary starts losing any support in superdelegates in New York I would predict a flood - the campaign would be over.

1. How would she be sure to get the other delegate
I would imagine that any replacement would have to be confirmed at this late date and would likely take at least a majority of the national delegates to confirm.

2. no it is determined by the state DNC where she has a total of 41 super delegates
the largest concentration of any group in any state. If she were to lose any support here it would be significant.

There are a total of 81 Add on delegates - superedelegates that have not yet been chosen by each state.

The national DNC selects no delegates

5. no he has endorsed Clinton
but my point is that if he resigned his seat He would still be a superdelegate as Govenor and they could appoint another DNC delegate as super delegate.

Also by not filling the spot they bring down the ceiling for winning the nomination by .5.

I am just speculating why don't they go ahead and just do everything that would help Hillary.

4. Yes, good point, one that reminds the Clinton campaign that there's been
no satisfactory answer to the mystery of the "ghost votes" in Harlem and other NYC districts.

Odd that Sen. Obama drew no votes, at all, in Harlem.

A lot of voters in New York State like Obama. Their Favorite Daughter won the NY primary but that was then and this is now.

In 1968 favorite son Roger Brannigan ran for president from Indiana but was defeated by Robert Kennedy.

With Spitzer out of the picture, the state party apparatus Rolodex likely took a hard spin. Hard to tell whose name will come up at the top next.

12. Well, once you quit the DNC, you're off of it, you know.
He may not want to quit the DNC for completely different reasons. Maybe he likes being on the DNC. If he's a party guy, that may very well be so.
