Obama spokesman Bill Burton responds:

After their top surrogates pushed this story line and Senator Clinton's campaign outlined this as a central strategy in her plan to overturn the will of Democratic voters, I can see why they wouldn't want a photo out there that shows the kind of hypocrisy we've all come to expect from their campaign.

The only hypocrisy I see is that what's coming from Obama supporters who took Drudge's word that it was the Clinton campaign who spread that goofy pic of Obama in Somalia around, and screamed to high heaven.

12. This Is The Saddest Thing I've Seen The Obama Camp Do Yet. It's Pathetic Actually.
Using that picture as showing hypocrisy or trying to connect him to the clintons is really as weak as you can get. I say that sincerely too. I'm actually a bit shocked they'd take this route, because it really is quite transparent. I'm also disappointed in any of my fellow DU'ers that thinks that photo means anything whatsoever, because it shows a lack of critical thinking ability on their part.

Seriously: The whole thing they're trying to portray by pushing this photo is really quite pathetic and embarrassing. It makes them and others look really quite silly.

25. Depends on how they play it.
I don't object to a reminder that Wright was once prominent and safe enough to have had his picture taken once with (Bill) Clinton. But the Hillary campaign has kept pretty quiet on the subject, and deserves no neener-neeners.

I don't see it as a smear attempt (as was the MSM's pimping of Wright)--just an attempt to diffuse the manufactured rage.

5183818, NY Times says Obama campaign provided them with Clinton/Wright photo
Posted by ruggerson on Thu Mar-20-08 09:34 PM

"In providing the photograph to The New York Times, the Obama campaign appeared to be trying to divert some attention to the Clintons after a week in which Mr. Obama’s relationship with Mr. Wright has left him facing one of the biggest challenges of his campaign."

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/03/20/photograph-of-bill-clinton-and-rev-wright-surfaces /

"Responding to the Times's report that Obama campaign had "provided" them a photo of Bill Clinton and Jeremiah Wright (which had surfaced a bit earlier here and elsewhere) , Clinton spokesman Jay Carson emails:

"The Obama campaign put this photo out? How pathetic," he said. "Less than 48 hours after calling for a high-minded conversation on race, the Obama campaign is peddling photos of an occasion when President Clinton shook hands with Rev. Wright. To be clear, President Clinton took tens of thousands of photos during his 8 years as president."

20. Thats what Hillary gets for giving Obama a free pass on the Wright issue
Hillary's only response to Wrightgate was 'no comment' and this is how Obama responds. Everyday Obama reveals more and more his true colors.

Rev. Wright. Now he uses Wright against Obama.

If you Hillary people don't recognize what is wrong with that, you simply don't have a clue.

35. Those preachers and religious leaders helped save Bill Clinton's ass.
Edited on Fri Mar-21-08 09:45 AM by dkf
With tearing eyes and a trembling voice, President Clinton succeeded yesterday in convincing a room full of religious leaders that he was genuinely sorry about his affair with Monica S. Lewinsky and embarrassed about the way he handled it. One after another, ministers, rabbis and imams left the White House prayer breakfast saying they were moved by the sight of the most powerful man in the world humbling himself so thoroughly before them.

Dozens of those who spoke afterward said they were confident that the speech marked a turning point on Clinton's road to personal salvation. Even many who had once been reluctant to forgive the president set aside any concerns they had about being used to provide moral cover and conveyed their approval.

24. As I mentioned in another thread, I don't know who prepares the guest lists
and invitations to these events, but there were about 100 preachers there that day. These are annual events and prominent clergymen attend.

I'm not sure what this picture is supposed to prove besides the fact that the two men had met. I don't think Pastor Wright preached a sermon at this event and if he had I'm sure it would have sounded much different than one he would have given in fromt of his own congregation. Had Clinton denied ever meeting Pastor Wright? I just don't see that this picture in itself shows any hypocrisy on the part of the Clinton campaign.

27. The Obama "spokesman" needs to grow up
A president shakes millons of hands in the course of 8 years. And invites 100's of 1000's of people to White House functions.

Get real Obama camp. And give us a break.

29. Obama is projecting..
Obama is the hyocrite. Claiming to be
above such typical political manuvers and
then using the tactics he says he is above.

One handshake in the White House is not even
comparable to Obama sitting in a pew for 20
years and condoning Wright.
