13. I go with GOP too
the dirtiest deeds are always done by them. Clinton Inc. might be interested, but I don't want to think they'd sink to the level of this.

There are so many "interests" involved in that agency right now, it might be something we haven't considered yet.

42. Sooner or later some knucklehead would inevitably make this claim
Assuming Obama wanted to do it, HOW would he go about it?

Just because (and in this I agree) the issue redounds to Obama's benefit, doesn't mean he was behind it. Many of the attacks CLEARLY from the HRC camp have backfired -- was Andrew Cuomo a 'secret Obama agent'? Remember the TV show "Get Smart"? Nice work, agent 99.

By the way, Obama's speech in response to the "Rev Wright stuff" was excellent, and all-but-ignored on DU -- morally shocking but factually unsurprising. In the longer run, this whole episode, including Obama's response to it, might earn him well-deserved respect in some quarters, including important ones. I agree it posed an ENORMOUS political danger and still does (this country spent almost ALL of 1994 going on about an obscure speech by a hitherto unknown Khallid Abdul Maurice Templesman Muhammad, and more recently HRC tried to link Obama with Farrakhan in a debate -- and WON primaries after the kitchen-sink strategy that epitomized was deployed in late Feb and early March.

26. I don't see why Bushco would need to go about something
like this in such a hamfisted way.

I imagine anybody elected to the Senate, and given security clearance, would have a full FBI background check - including passport records. Anybody invited to the White House would undergo a background check - including, I presume, a review of passport records.

I don't think BUshco would need to hire some junior level data entry people to get the information.

33. I gotta agree with much that you posted.
BushCo would just need to ask Condi...there is no need for them to use three low level employees. Too much risk.

Also: I don't see what BuchCo would have to gain from doing this. They have no dog in the fight ~~ or at least so it appears.

38. Well, the "plumbers" weren't exactly elegant either. They were caught as well, because
of the mistakes they made. While thorough FBI background checks are routinely done, they aren't handed over for oppositional research, although in Bush's partisan government, nothing would surprise me now. :-( THis happened three different times and the Senator wasn't notified until the story was about to break in the news. If it was just bored temps, and this wasn't a big deal, the breach would have been caught , stopped, the person fired and the Senator would have been notified. State should have recognized this pattern. and sealed this hole, so to speak. Instead, it happened at least three times, over the course of 2+ (I believe) months, and kept a secret. It just reeks of the Bush hubris and tactics to me. I , like everyone else, have no clue who's responsible, but I damn well want to know.

25. HRC, March 12, 2008: "you have traveled to only one NATO country"
Hillary asks, "As voters evaluate you as a potential Commander-in-Chief, do you think it's legitimate for people to be concerned that you have traveled to only one NATO country, on a brief stopover trip in 2005, and have never traveled to Latin America?"

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/03/12/clinton-camp-to-obama-yo_n_91156.html

This doesn't look good at all, but I don't think Clinton is guilty of espionage -- that I know of.

Because it seems every time I have tried to give her the benefit of the doubt I eventually am proven wrong. I think the Bush admin doesn't really care, and the January breach seems to make no sense in regards to McCain. The "curiosity" factor went out the door after the second breach.

40. Whatever its cause it certainly helps move beyond Wright-milking news cycles ...
which have been, to the eternal shame of many on DU (let's also make a point of remembering, as memories are often VERY short) was jumped on not only by many on the right, but by folk here at DU with an embarrassing eagerness.

I still think that the important speech that Obama gave in response was just right, and all-but-ignored here on DU. Look around -- there's more interest in Passportgate than in Obama's speech.

Also, the Richardson endorsement moved by with nary a ripple that I can see -- maybe an endorsement from Edwards would turn at least a VERY FEW heads here on DU
