First he throws his grandmother under the bus, then he runs over her several times.
By sitting in that pew for almost his entire adult life, Barack Obama allowed Rev. Wright to drum the last ounce of common sense out of him.

I for one will "cringe" for the future of our country if our party is so bereft of its senses as to nominate that flatulent gasbag as our candidate for the presidency.

I'll go right out and buy a bumper sticker that says: "Don't Blame Me. I voted for Edwards."

115. Thanks for saying it "sick of stereotyping"
and not responding back with "he's racist against whites" which is not helpful.

I don't feel I'm in the racist category that Wright is talking about, so I'm not offended. Maybe living near the Black Muslim Bakery in Oakland helped.

15. My grandmother was a typical white person too....
she loved me more than the world, but she said and did things
that embarassed me. I can still loved her, and admit that
she, a product of her generation, was 'limited.'

I guess I threw my grandmother under the bus too.

My father, a dear sweet loving man who'd do anything for me,
was a product of his generation too. He was a Goldwater Republican,
and could be a nasty racist. He hated Martin Luther King Jr. and
would spew racist comments constantly.

I guess I threw my father under the bus too.

I guess in this climate we can't be honest about our family's
failures and frailties. We'll never get anywhere in this country
until we can be honest about our families, and each other.

Shame on us.

Obama and his followers are the ones who keep playing the race card. Over and over and over again. And they keep whining about racism where none exists. Like the story about the boy who "cried wolf" too many times, people are learning to ignore him/turn their backs on him.

Have you watched the full videos of the Wright sermons in question? Have you?

Have you watched any of his other sermons?

That's a rhetorical question because there are only two options: 1) You have not watched them and you are speaking out of pure ignorance; 2) You have watched them, and you are speaking out of fear and hate.

Either way, you come out looking very, very bad.

Wouldn't it be his own grandmother who interprets whether she was "thrown under the bus" or not?

I have a co-worker who just know called her sister a "bee-atch" on the phone. Was she throwing her sister under the bus or not?

Or (and I find this much more likely and plausible) is it possible only she and her sister know for sure if the statement was pejorative or not?

when he's accusing all white people of being racist when he first claims in his 38 minute speech that she made racist remarks and then several days later in an interview says she's just a "typical white person" for making those remarks?

Sorry, but I don't have to be his grandmother to be offended. He's not just throwing her under the bus. He's also thowing all white people under the bus as well. Some "uniter".

It is clear that you did not.

This is one of the greatest political speeches on race, ever, and you concentrate on one line, one honest depiction amongst many, to deride.

Kind of pathetic.

66. I wasn't just talking about one speech in the OP. I was talking about Obama's recent references to
his grandmother, first accusing her of making racist comments to him when he was a child so much as to make him "cringe" (throwing her under the bus), then following that up with an interview several days later referring to her AGAIN as being "a typical white person", itself a racist statement on his part ("running over her again and again").

Your brain cells were put there for a reason: use them.

75. Your phony presumptuousness betrays you.
I DID watch the entire speech, and I read the entire text.

Irrelevant.

I didn't feel the least bit "healed" by it.

I found too much in it to be so offensive, that by the time he followed it up with more offensiveness in that interview, I became completely disgusted and started this OP to point some of it out.

You're living in a hallucinatory world from drinking all that kool-aid, and it's caused you to imagine you're some kind of psychic, pretending to know what I've watched or listened to and what I haven't. And each time you've made your pyschic pronouncements you've been 100% dead wrong.

In reality, this was the most honest, uplifting speech on race in a long time.

That you refuse to see this only proves you are a Hillary partisan who is playing a political game.

And this is sad.

This isn't about Obama's presidential aspirations. This is about a historical opportunity that the _clear delegate leader_ took but didn't have to.

Your position is a train that has run off the rails.

Stop it! I think being able to see his grandmother's POV has broadened Obama's understanding of human nature. Human beings are victims of their environments. Bigotry is taught as is understanding and tolerance. Leave that poor damn Gramma out of this. I was taught tolerance and acceptance in a pure white community. It was easy for me to practice being above it all. I never saw anyone Jewish, black or Gypsy. It was a thrill for me to attend HS in a town near an Air Force base and meet kids of color and mixed heritage. Our biggest turf wars were between cowboys and hippies. All white jerks.

Later in life I had a boyfriend who had lived in several different states. He was German and Mexican and less tolerant than I am. He would tell me stuff like there are cities that you would not want to in on the wrong side of town. You can't be so open minded and liberal that you would jeopardize your safety by being where you don't belong. I had to admit that flaming white liberals don't always a corner on the market of real life experience. It isn't all black and white so to speak. Some times the content is situational. An animal lover doesn't cover themselves in honey and lay in a bear den or stand in a stampede. Your altruism and soft heart won't save you.

People fear what they don't know and what is different from them. Exposure and introduction into the unknown makes it less powerfully fearsome. Even if you are taught not to be prejudiced if you have never seen someone different you'll take a second look and be hesitant until you are reassured. That grandmother is no less human than you are. Get over it.

Give the poor lady a break.

I haven't heard him talk about her at all until that crap about her making racist remarks when he was a child, and I don't believe he learned to "cringe" about whatever she said until he'd had 20 years of Wright crapola bouncing around in his brain. Now he couples that with a racist comment about her AND about white people everywhere?

He's starting to sound like Wright has brainwashed him into sheer insensitive idiocy.

109. When a person judges another without all the facts...
they themselves look hypocritical. When they refuse to get all of the facts then they are considered hypocrites who are ignorant of the facts.

Your post seems devoid of facts. It's as if you decided that a people who were predisposed to abuse from its government should shut up and take it. How much do you really know about our country? We've done good things. We've also done bad things.

If we say we are so great then Wright is saying we should act it.

You sound like someone who understands racism but you don't like it being brought to your face. And you want to call someone else racist but you yourself may harbor some racist feelings.

When you post a comment use facts to back it up or you look like you're out of touch.

for instance... Wright said that America was responsible for slavery, Japanese internment camps, dropping the atomic bomb on innocent people, invading Iraq on a lie. Those are facts. Shouldn't we all be upset about that? Or is it that you just don't care about those things. And to boot, you don't want to hear a black man spell out the atrocities we've caused?

Why does that lack "common sense". You see to want to defend a racist comment by grandma but not reverend Wright. What's up with that?

Barack's grandmother, according to him made a few racist comments when he was a child. But he also praises her for all she did in raising him when both parents were AWOL.

There are a lot of people who have relatives that have done something stupid, embarassing, or even shameful. But part of being human is honor one's family by keeping family matters private.

When a person running for president comes out and blasts his grandmother for being a racist, he is crossing the line, making a very private matter something public BEFORE THE ENTIRE WORLD just so he can exploit it AT HER EXPENSE to attempt to overcome his own embarassment over the fact he's been sitting in church for 20 years listening to a black racist spew incendiary bile. Violating his grandmother's privacy by making her an example of white racism to the entire planet to falsely and irrationally justify his support of a stupid, crazed, black racist minister he's too stupid (and perhaps too racist himself) to disavow.

Shame on him and shame on you for trying to dig up some lame excuse for it.
