DU and The Real World
So, with all the crap that is being thrown about on this board, it is clear that their is a real division here.

Assuming that we all agree that the DU is NOT the real world, just how much of the division that we see here is actually happening with the real voting public?

Is this division only on this board or do you have evidence that this is taking place beyond our borders?

-P

2. There is FAR more support for Hillary Clinton with voters than is reflected on this board.

5. This board has a FAR higher percentage of PROGRESSIVES than exist in the general public.
Not that either candidate isn't a corporatist, but Obama slightly less so than Clinton.

10. How high minded and snotty of you. A lot of people don't have time for this, while they're
working two jobs, cooking dinner, bathing and putting their kids to bed.

15. Thinking that there are more progressive people on this board is. Maybe voters will show you that.

16. Erm...OK, Lula.
Edited on Sun Mar-23-08 03:26 AM by Umbram
How exactly would the voters establish that there is a higher percentage of progressives outside this board than on this board?

I know you are trying desperately to make sense, but you are failing.

You can disagree with me and say that Clinton is more progressive. So be it, that is a matter of opinion and neither of us can 'prove' it either way.

Is it?

Is there some connection between internet message board civility and progressive politics that I'm unaware of?

If there was a concrete point you were trying to make, I'm not sure what it is.

14. OMGsh I just made a post mentioning that same thing
I said:

This board reminds me of The Lord of the Flies. Each time I come here I get the image of the boys killing Piggy, or shoving a hog's head on the end of a stick. William Golding was traumatized by war and wrote the Lord of the Flies as an explanation of his belief in humanity. He claimed that humans were all evil inside and the only thing holding them away from murderous, greedy, filthy chaos is social structure and the legal system. No good deed is done for the sake of doing it, they all done in hopes of receiving rewards... be those rewards "gratitude", "self realization", "money", "not being thrown in jail" and so on. I agree with him. We are all beasts on the inside. Look at a person who drives by and flips you off as they pass your car. I have never seen someone pass a worker's cubical and flip that worker off while screaming "SO LONG SUCKER!" Yet I make a typo in a neutral comment laughing a photo of James Carville and a poster decides to call me out, ridicule me, and tell me how "the dictionary is my friend." All I said was "that picture looks erie" and spelled eerie with one e by mistake? Who would act that way in real life???

I wrote a song about this belief. The first verse went:

William Golding had it right
our insides are as black as night
without the law society is dead

Freud decipher Lennon's gun
we love to f--k with everyone
but no one ever f--ks with the Id.

21. Indeed it is. i just know of two people who are saying
...they will not vote BO if he wins. But when it comes to it they will. I think they know it will be stupid totally to allow the GOP any edge. they don't like BO though and will vote for him hoping against hope that things will be OK and he won't get rolled. They are just very angry at the way Hillary has been shafted with the sexism thing.
But no name calling at the dinner table or party gathering. No accusations of racism. no baiting. No foul behavior.
