HALPERIN’S TAKE: Painful Things Hillary Clinton Knows — Or Should Know
Edited on Sun Mar-23-08 03:41 AM by loveangelc
1. She can’t win the nomination without overturning the will of the elected delegates, which will alienate many Democrats.

2. She can’t win the nomination without a bloody convention battle — after which, even if she won, history and many Democrats would cast her as a villain.

3. Catching up in the popular vote is not out of the question — but without re-votes in Florida and Michigan it will be almost as impossible as catching up in elected delegates.

4. Nancy Pelosi and other leading members of Congress don’t think she can win and want her to give up. Same with superdelegate-to-the-stars Donna Brazile.

5. Obama’s skilled, close-knit staff can do things like silently kill re-votes in Florida and Michigan and not pay a political price.

6. Many of her supporters — and even some of her staffers — would be relieved (and even delighted) if she quit the race; none of his supporters or staff feel that way. Some think she just might throw in the towel in June if it appears efforts to fight on would hurt Obama’s general election chances.

7. The Rev. Wright story notwithstanding, the media still wants Obama to be the nominee — and that has an impact every day.

8. Obama might not be able to talk that well about the new global economy, but she (and McCain) can’t either.

9. Many of the remaining prominent superdelegates want to be for Obama and she (and Harold Ickes) are just barely keeping them from making public commitments to him.

10. She can’t publicly say more than 2% of all the things she would like to say about race, electability, beating McCain and experience.

11. If she somehow found a way to win the nomination, she would have to offer Obama the veep slot, and she doesn’t want to do that.

12. This is a change election, and Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton can never truly be change.

13. Obama is having fun most days, and she isn’t.

14. Even though her campaign staff is having more fun than it has for a long time, there’s hardly anyone there who, given half a chance, wouldn’t slit Mark Penn’s throat — and such internal dissension won’t help her in the home stretch.

.....this is coming from Halperin who I believe supports Hillary.

1. Hillary should stay in and make Obama pay a HUGE price for killing MI and FL revotes
Obama cannot win the general against McCain due to Rev Wright and his complate lack of national security experience. Having Hillary win at the convention is a lot better than having Obama lose in the fall to McCain.

3. So you're all for President McSame?
Because if Hillary pushes this to the convention, and takes the nomination through the SD's (even though it is perfectly legal)the backlash would not only assure a McLame presidency, but possibly losses in both houses of congress, and a severely damaged democratic party for years to come. Is that really worth the price for a Hillary coronation???

4. except he has a better shot of beating McCain than she does
Edited on Sun Mar-23-08 04:14 AM by Wetzelbill
so I can't say that what you say makes much sense. The Rev Wright issue won't get any worse than it already has, it's been effectively quelled, especially by his speech. He has other factors that trump a perceived lack of national security experience, most importantly McCain's views on Iraq and foreign policy are way out of line with how the country feels. I think either Hillary or Obama would beat McCain though. But what is the purpose of her staying in and beating up on a Dem just for the sake of beating up on him when she really can't win and it softens him of for a Republican? That's just a sick and petty thing to say, especially after 8 years of the worst president ever. Real people are out there hurting, and to suggest that HRC should stay in and beat up on Obama and subject our country to another 4 years of GOP hell is a hateful thing to do.

5. "Make Obama pay a HUGE price"
Another example of the irrational hatred consuming so many supporters of Hillary. You don't care about transforming this country, making government more open and accountable to the people. You just want to hurt the presumptive Democratic nominee. That is very sad and disturbing.

If only you would use that energy constructively. Please read Josh Marshall's http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/184975.php">take on people like yourself.

8. Yep, I just saw one of them on another post outlining how HRC can win.
"She has to destroy him" was the answer.

7. also, it just shows how much you hillary supporters are more cult like than any obama supporters
you would rather see hillary win the nomination through any means necessary, than have a united democratic party, and since your leader cannot have it, no dem should be president.

12. Keep sticking to the talking points buddy.
If any of that were true, why is she not ahead in all that matters: delegates, states, and popular vote?

9. Halperin is a piece of work.
Edited on Sun Mar-23-08 04:28 AM by Skwmom

Once you get past the first couple of comments, it's another let's help the Clintons and attack Obama.

3. Catching up in the popular vote is not out of the question — but without re-votes in Florida and Michigan it will be almost as impossible as catching up in elected delegates. (AGAIN WITH THE BOGUS POPULAR VOTE ARGUMENT. GUESS WHO WAS GOING TO ARGUE THAT THEY SHOULD BE PRESIDENT IF THEY WON THE POPULAR VOTE BUT LOST THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE? GEORGE BUSH IN 2000 - BUT HE DIDN'T HAVE TO SINCE HE WON THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE AND GORE WON THE POPULAR VOTE. MANY PEOPLE STAYED HOME B/C THEY KNEW OBAMA WOULD WIN THEIR STATE AND CAPTURE MOST OF THE DELEGATES. IF THEY KNEW IT WAS A POPULAR VOTE CONTEST, I'M SURE THEY WOULD HAVE WENT TO THE POLLS. THIS IS WHY YOU DON'T CHANGE THE RULES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GAME.)

4. Nancy Pelosi and other leading members of Congress don’t think she can win and want her to give up. Same with superdelegate-to-the-stars Donna Brazile. (THEY DON'T THINK BUT THEY NOTHING MORE THAN MERE PSYCHICS TO THE STARS/SUPERDELEGATES).

5. Obama’s skilled, close-knit staff can do things like silently kill re-votes in Florida and Michigan and not pay a political price. (THE OLD CLINTON MEME, BLAME OBAMA FOR FL AND MI AND IGNORE THE FACT THAT CLINTON IS TRYING TO STRUCTURE THE REVOTE TO MAKE IT FAVORABLE TO HER, FL IS A STATE WITH A LONG HISTORY OF VOTE MANIPULATION AND THE POLITICAL MACHINE IS BACKING HER, AND THAT TWO STATES WHO WERE PUNISHED FOR THEIR CONDUCT KNOW WANT TO BE REWARDED WITH PLAYING AN EVEN LARGER ROLE IN DETERMINING THE NOMINEE - WHICH IS UNFAIR TO THE OTHER STATES WHO HAVE ALREADY VOTED).

6. Many of her supporters — and even some of her staffers — would be relieved (and even delighted) if she quit the race; none of his supporters or staff feel that way. Some think she just might throw in the towel in June if it appears efforts to fight on would hurt Obama’s general election chances. (SUPERDELEGATES AND OTHERS SHOULD HOLD OFF ENDORSING B/C SHE'LL THROW IN THE TOWEL IN JUNE - OF COURSE IT'S ONLY MIGHT B/C SHE'S HOPING SHE'LL HAVE OBAMA SO DAMAGED BY THEN - WITH THE HELP OF HER GOOD BUDDY MURDOCH AND HER OTHER CORPORATE MEDIA BUDDIES - SHE'LL BE ABLE TO CONVINCE THE SUPERDELEGATES THAT SHE MUST BE THE NOMINEE).

7. The Rev. Wright story notwithstanding, the media still wants Obama to be the nominee — and that has an impact every day. (THIS IS SUCH A LIE. I'M SURE THERE ARE SOME JOURNALISTS WHO SUPPORT OBAMA, BUT THE MEDIA OWNERS DO NOT SUPPORT OBAMA B/C HE ISN'T OWNED BY THE BIG MONEY CORPORATE INTEREST. TOO MANY IN THE MEDIA SELL OUT FOR $$$$$ (THEIR PAYCHECK) AND WILL CONTINUE TO ATTACK OBAMA. REMEMBER THE NBC REPORTER WHO WAS HAMMERED FOR NOT BEING CRITICAL ENOUGH OF GORE IN 2000?)

8. Obama might not be able to talk that well about the new global economy, but she (and McCain) can’t either. (WE ARE IN AN ECONOMIC CRISIS AND HE WANTS YOU TO BELIEVE THAT OBAMA DOESN'T UNDERSTAND THE ECONOMY. HE DOESN'T "UNDERSTAND" B/C HE ISN'T WILLING TO SELL OUT WORKERS AND BELIEVES IN WORKER RIGHTS).

9. Many of the remaining prominent superdelegates want to be for Obama and she (and Harold Ickes) are just barely keeping them from making public commitments to him. (BUT SHE IS KEEPING THEM SO THEY MUST BE WORRIED ABOUT OBAMA IN THE GE).

10. She can’t publicly say more than 2% of all the things she would like to say about race, electability, beating McCain and experience. (SO ON HER BEHALF I'LL REMIND VOTERS THAT THIS COUNTRY WON'T ELECT AN BLACK MAN WHO IS INEXPERIENCED - NEVER MIND THAT THE ONLY EXPERIENCE THE CLINTONS HAVE IS THROWING ANYONE, INCLUDING THIS ENTIRE COUNTRY UNDER A BUS, TO GET WHAT THEY WANT AND OBAMA HAS MORE ELECTED OFFICE EXPERIENCE.)

11. If she somehow found a way to win the nomination, she would have to offer Obama the veep slot, and she doesn’t want to do that. (YOU CAN GET YOUR DREAM TICKET B/C SHE KNOWS SHE WILL HAVE TO OFFER HIM THE TICKET, EVEN THOUGH SHE KNOWS HE'S NOT "QUALIFIED.")

12. This is a change election, and Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton can never truly be change. (YES, BIG MONEY SPECIAL INTERESTS, DON'T WORRY IT WILL BE BUSINESS AS USUAL).

13. Obama is having fun most days, and she isn’t. (HE'S THE YOUNG HIP FUN CANDIDATE, SHE IS THE SERIOUS EXPERIENCED GROWN UP CANDIDATE).

14. Even though her campaign staff is having more fun than it has for a long time, there’s hardly anyone there who, given half a chance, wouldn’t slit Mark Penn’s throat — and such internal dissension won’t help her in the home stretch.
--- (YES, THEY HAVE FUN PUSHING THE WRIGHT STORY ON THE INTERNET, PUSHING THE STORY THROUGH THEIR SURROGATES AND BILL CLINTON, AND WATCHING THEIR BUDDY MURDOCH PUSH THE WRIGHT STORY AND THROWING THE KITCHEN SINK AT OBAMA.)
