Obama's Tony McPeak on Iraq- "We'll be there a century, hopefully. If it works right."

Obama's claim to fame is "judgment", I am not so sure he knows the definition of "judgment. (To paraphrase "The Princess Bride")

McPeak Obama's camapign co-chair was in the news this week for his calling Bill Clinton "McCarthy"like also wants us to be in Iraq for a

hundred years. He said in 2003 that-

"Yeah. I really think time is on our side here. This is a fragile society, a little old one-town country, the size of Nebraska, maybe a little bigger, with the GDP about half the Army budget. So if this is a hard problem, we ought to get ourselves some new generals. I mean there's no reason why this shouldn't be a walkover."

and-

"Who wants to volunteer to get cross-ways with us? We'll be there a century, hopefully. If it works right.

I'll tell you one thing we should not hope for (is) a democratic Iraq. When I hear the president talking about democracy, the last thing we should want is an election in Iraq. We're not very popular. So I don't think we'll see any open elections in Iraq for a long time. http://www.poor-attitude.org/mt/archives/000074.html

Hopefully over time they can be brought along like Japan and Germany -- Japan and Germany were relatively easy, I think, and South Korea."

McPeak is a part of the American story; Barack can no more disown him than he can disown his own grandmother.

1. You May Have A Good Point
I'd need more contextual information about these statements. Depending on what I see, I might not vote for McPeak if he runs for president.

2. He was talking militarily
the first quote was a week after the invasion and at that point, only an idiot would hope for anything less than a quick resolution.

The last quote is geo-political, typical of the American superiority mindset. That doesn't mean McPeak doesn't have other good opinions to offer, that interview is full of great ideas. After all, he called the WMD right too.

with anticipation. I can't wait to see the Obama supporters attempt to justify and defend.

I am rarely disappointed.

6. Typical cherry-picking
That's how the CLINTONS helped get us into the Iraq War to begin with - THEY are the ones who repeated the same cherry picking bullshit Bush did. Remember? How can you support that???
