11. Oh noes! There's a brown skinned, bearded, hippie woman who wants to rapture you right behind you!
I don't see what's so scary about brown skin though.

6. Some terrorists MAY want to destroy democracy yet most do not..
Voting machines ARE being used to destroy democracy. Although I have no proof of either assertion I firmly believe both to be true. Perhaps the manipulators of the voting machines ARE the terrorists who are out to destroy our democracy. Maybe the "War On Terrorism" needs to refocus it's attention.

Isn't one meaning of democracy: "the will of the majority"? If the means for collecting the data which reflects that will of that majority is contaminated or twisted to reflect the will of a minority, then democracy is no longer functioning. Well that's how I see it.

12. Vile Rethuglicans and their vote-eating machines.
Sometimes I look at all of the fighting and name-calling here and think that it's pointless if the Rethugs are still in charge of voting machine software.

16. Thank you for posting chknltl I wonder what happened to the
family members of the 4? What political leanings do they have? Do they work to help keep war mongers out of office? Where are they now? And, did any of the others shot have permanent injuries?

I was about 11 when this happened. All I remember is an acquaintance of my Dad called him and asked his opinion of whether he should go to college to avoid the draft? I believe my Dad encouraged college and also talked to him extensively because he felt something like what happened at Kent State was going to happen. I remember their rage when it did happen and I remember them yelling at Nixon through the TV. My Dad was always so quiet when the war news played... He could always feel the pain of the soldier.

22. I was 17 when that happened.
You ask good questions, I do not know what happened to the surviving wounded. Thanks for the triple kick and kind words. Election fraud is robbing us of our democracy, nixon would likely have approved of that tactic as well.

All and all, as bad as things have gotten, the bfee has yet to sick Blackwater on us...that may be soon though. Freedom of speech is still rampant, our colleges and universities may still be a bastion of knowledge, (the 'educated' electorate). The internet and forums such as ours have become perhaps an even bigger stronghold of enlightenment. Instead of the students protesting en'mass across our nation as was done during the late'60s, early '70s, they turn to the internet. How will things shake out? Who knows, the bad guys won't go quietly that's for sure.

btw: I do not understand the image of the tree young ladies holding the small disposable plastic containers with some sort of colored gels or sauces in that video early on.

24. Evidently it is jello shots, no clue why they included them in the video
I do think the internet is exposing the corruption much more - my parents never trusted the gov't - taught me early on to read beyond the headlines - so glad they did. If it weren't for the protests that war would have gone on even longer. I just wonder how much longer this one will go on before there are more "wider" spread protests.

25. I have thoughts regarding those protests...
In the early '80s a college professor gave us a lecture titled: The Great Student Revolt.
In it he detailed how the baby boomers coming to age under Roosevelt's period of prosperity, found themselves in colleges and universities ill equiped to handle the entertainment needs of these students. That single small pool or tennis-court was overwhelmed with kids. The kids in college were exempt from being drafted so the draft was not their primary motivation prior to the Kent State incident. Street protests and sit-ins were something cool to check out as opposed to being something to get passionate over. My professor said that more than any other factor, boredom, was the biggest reason that these rallies held so many students in them. They simply had nothing else to distract them back then.

Things changed after Kent State, now we had the proof we needed that the "establishment" was not worth trusting. Taking to the streets was now more about demanding change as opposed to wandering over to check out a neat protest rally. I can not know what motivated those four who died that day but looking at their photo's, I don't see any radicals looking to take down democracy, I see kids who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Regardless of why they were where they were when they got gunned down, their deaths should never be forgotten. They may not have died FOR a cause but their deaths ARE a cause which remains vital to this day. The military belongs to US! It is We The Peoples Military, to be used in our national defense, to be used to help us in times of catastrophy. It does not belong to our government to be used against us as was the case when a member of our government sent in the national guard to the campus of Kent State University.
