Just heard that Obama camp apologized for McCarthy snark on Bill Clinton comment by staffer:
Edited on Sun Mar-23-08 07:40 PM by rodeodance
The Obama camp throwing the kitchen sink at Hillary went to far.

But glad to see this.

Local TV news—but this article gives more detail.

Today on Fox News Sunday, Bill Richardson said that President Clinton was not questioning Sen. Obama's patriotism

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxUHebdq22c

Andrew Sullivan and Kathleen Parker “ both prominent critics of President Clinton“ agree.

In response to the same comments, the Obama campaign compared Bill Clinton to Joe McCarthy. Read Howard Wolfson memo on the Obama campaign's daily character attacks.

…….We can not imagine that the Obama Campaign really believes that the comments above were an attack on Senator Obama in any way; rather their attempt to cast the comments in that light are nothing more than a transparent attempt to shift the media’s focus away from his recent troubles (http://facts.hillaryhub.com/archive/?id=6668).

Of course, this is not the first time in this campaign that General McPeak has engaged in personal attacks. On February 2, General McPeak was forced to apologize for remarks he made about Senator Clinton ( http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-iraqpol2feb02,0,1272905.story)……..

9. And that's one of the HUGE differences between the candidates...
Obama can see when someone is impolite, even if that someone is defending him ~ the Clintons are both such narcissists they excuse anything done on their behalf.

Look, polichick made the point that Obama's campaign takes responsibility, one way or another, for the statements of their supporters. Then polichick asks for evidence that Obama has 'crawled into a ditch'.

I read your post. There's nothing in there that shows that Obama "crawled in a ditch" to sling mud.

So let's see it.

30. polichick, I agree with you...
I love that Obama takes the high road and is so above-board. I had to laugh when you
said that you could never be employed by the campaign, because they are so very polite
and into their philosophy of remaining positive and not attacking the other side.
I feel strongly that you must fight this stuff. I don't think I'd make it one day in
the Obama campaign. I'm no Mark Penn, but I feel that you must fight back and be as focused
on the positive as you are about the realities--that you must take on strongly.

It's just very difficult to let go of that mentality, after seeing so many of our Dems
sliced to bits.

I supposed I'm operating out of fear, when it comes to my political philosophies, and maybe
Obama will truly change the political landscape.

I agree with you, that he really wants a new kind of politics, but it almost seems as if
being gracious and fair leaves a politician with a competitive disadvantage these days.

Maybe that's cynical.

It's amazing to watch his staffers in action ~ they don't waste one second on negativity and every ounce of energy goes toward getting the work done. But they're some of the smartest, kindest, most fun people I've ever met. It's inspiring, and I can see how they turn people around by being that way. One Clinton supporter came into the office when it first opened feeling pretty fearful about Obama. She was obviously angry, bordering on hostile, but left feeling happy and reassured after talking with a few people. It's very contagious at the grassroots level ~ and Obama believes that change starts at the bottom.

Let's keep our fingers crossed!:)

Leading Obama Adviser Attacks Ex-President for Remarks

<...>

In response to reporters in Oregon on Friday, General McPeak compared the former president to Senator Joseph R. McCarthy, who aggressively pursued those he believed to be communists in the 1950s. “I was going to college when Joe McCarthy was accusing good Americans of being traitors, so I’ve had enough of it,” General McPeak said.

The bitter exchange between the surrogates for Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama highlighted the rising tensions between the two Democratic presidential candidates in their prolonged fight for the party’s nomination.

“To liken these comments to McCarthyism is absurd,” said Phil Singer, a Clinton campaign spokesman. He said General McPeak was misinterpreting the remarks, suggesting it was an intentional effort to divert attention from a controversy involving inflammatory statements by Mr. Obama’s former pastor.

Never mind the NYT's biased headline: "attacks"?

Singer is continuing to push the smear against Wright.

CLINTON: Ross gave a good answer but I've got to respond directly to Mr. Bush. You have questioned my patriotism.

BUSH: (Inaudible).

CLINTON: You even brought some right-wing congressman into the White House to plot how to attack me for going to Russia in 1969-70, when over 50,000 other Americans did. Now, I honor your service in World War II, I honor Mr. Perot's service in uniform and the service of every man and woman who ever served, including Admiral Crowe, who was your Chairman of the joint Chiefs and who's supporting me. But when Joe McCarthy went around this country attacking people's patriotism he was wrong. He was wrong. And a senator from Connecticut stood up to him named Prescott Bush. Your father was right to stand up to Joe McCarthy, you were wrong to attack my patriotism. I was opposed to the war but I loved my country and we need a president who will bring this country together, not divide it. We've had enough division. I want to lead a unified country.

72. right ----and see this:
WASHINGTON - Prominent supporters of Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama on Sunday both faulted Obama's campaign for allowing a retired general and backer of the Illinois senator to equate comments by Clinton's husband — which appeared to question Obama's patriotism — to McCarthyism.

"I don't believe President Clinton was implying that," said New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, a former presidential candidate who endorsed Obama last week. "But the point here ... is that the campaign has gotten too negative — too many personal attacks, too much negativity that is not resounding with the public."

65. The Obama camp hasn't been throwing the kitchen sink.
Your candidate started the low road. Just because they act swiftly on such matters does not mean what you pretend.

66. Selective outrage by Rodeodance, who doesn't mind Newsmax and Hannity being used.
A flaming hypocrite if ever there was one, and not to be taken seriously for a second unless one is a fellow groupie with no critical thinking skills.

68. "supporters of Clinton &Obama on Sunday both faulted Obama's campaign"
Edited on Sun Mar-23-08 10:53 PM by rodeodance

78. And he said it again..
While INTRODUCING Senator Obama, with the Senator standing right next to him, and the Senator did NOT, "as far as I know", try to disassociate himself from the notion during his speech. To me, that shows tacit agreement.

Gotten too negative indeed!

74. Here's another good article on the subject
http://www.adelphia.net/news/read.php?ps=1017&id=14492992&_LT=HOME_LARSDCCLM_UNEWS

saying just what Clinton supporters here have been complaining about.

Obama runs a negative campaign while claiming to take the high road.
