Ok, I am confused. Someone, a little clarity please
Rev. Wright made some comments that were taken completely out of context, and one one occasion quoted someone else using what some consider "anti-American" words, and now SOME white people are offended????

Are you fucking kidding me??? 400 years of oppression, and one black man uses some abrasive language, and all hell breaks loose. Now black people have no reason to feel slighted?

Am I living in bizarro world or something?

21. true - AA entitlement to an AA President? will be GOP put down if this line of logic continues
Folks do not want to vote based on raced - but GOP can make an issue of how Obama won nomination despite - if it happens - his losing by more than a small margin the non-AA vote in all the non-primary late voting states.

Wright ended the "transcends race" facade for Obama - and he will now have to run as the AA fellow that indeed is running as a black man and being rewarded with near 100% of the black vote - it will be now harder to get any issue conversation going - not impossible - but harder - in the general.

9. I am venting a little bit
I really haven't been too wrapped up in the Wright fiasco. I defended him in several posts early on, but realized that on DU it was a loosing battle. I am just shocked at some of the crap that I see on this board, and had to vent a little.

Thanks for your positive post!!:hi:

10. They've gone too far...
Edited on Sun Mar-23-08 09:36 PM by stillcool47
and by 'they' I mean the 'media'. They've been pushing those clips for well over a week, but not once have they mentioned who the Reverend is, and the honorable life he has led. There is no word that can describe what 'they' have done to this man. To see it live, day after day after day, on 'news networks' is beyond reasoning.

Born on September 22, 1941, in Philadelphia

Reverend Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. is one of the most widely acclaimed black preachers in the United States. Combining social concern, spiritual growth, and political activism, Wright, who preaches in a black traditional style, brings a message of hope, redemption, and renewal. In 1972 he became pastor of a small United Church of Christ congregation in the inner city of Chicago. After over 30 years in the pulpit, his congregation has grown to 10,000 and is the largest United Church of Christ congregation in the United States.

In 1959 Wright enrolled at Virginia Union University, in Richmond, where he remained until 1961. That year he left school to join the military. He served in the Second Marine Division of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1961 to 1963, achieving the rank of private first class. In 1963 he graduated as valedictorian from the Great Lakes Naval Training Center, and from 1964 to 1967, he served as a cardio pulmonary technician at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. During 1965 and 1966, he was awarded with three Presidential Commendations from President Lyndon B. Johnson.

After his discharge from the military, Wright continued his education. He enrolled at Howard University in Washington, D.C., in 1967, and was awarded a bachelor's degree in 1968 and a master's degree in 1969. He then entered the University of Chicago Divinity School, receiving a master of arts degree in 1975. He ended his formal education in 1990 when he earned a Doctor of Ministry degree in black sacred music from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
----------------------------------------------
When Wright joined the staff of Trinity United Church of Christ as senior pastor, the inner city church boasted just 87 active members, most of whom came from the neighborhood surrounding the church. Wright embraced his new congregation took up the phrase coined by his predecessor Rev. Dr. Reuben Sheares, "Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian." Within months the church had adopted the phrase as its motto and vision. Under Wright's leadership, fueled by his passion, and motivated by his preaching, the congregation began to grow by leaps and bounds. By 2004 there were over 10,000 members, with
people coming from across the metro area. The congregation, which proudly notes its diverse socio-economic mix, dedicated a new 2,700 worship center in 1997.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Wright has authored several books, including Africans Who Shaped Our Faith, Good News! Sermons of Hope for Today's Families, and What Makes You So Strong? Sermons of Joy and Strength from Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. According to Cleophus J. LaRue in The Heart of Black Preaching, in his title sermon of What Makes You So Strong, Wright "demonstrates the power of the mighty sovereign at work in the lives of black people in twentieth century America. This sermon focuses on the root of black strength and survivability. Wright makes it clear throughout the sermon that the source of all strength, and especially black strength, is none other than the Spirit of God." As in his preaching, in his writing Wright focuses on the dual issues of corporate concern and spiritual sustenance. His latest publication, What Can Happen When We Pray: A Daily Devotional, was published in 2002.
In recognition of his contributions, Wright has been awarded seven honorary doctoral degrees. He has also served on a number of boards and commissions, including serving on the board of trustees for Virginia Union University and Chicago Theological Seminary. He continues to be a highly sought after preacher, teacher, and lecturer.

11. Indeed there is frustration because the problems that face America transcend race...
Under Bush, racism is a minor problem... he truly doesn't care about race... he hates anyone who is poor... black, white, tan, olive, pomegranate, he don't give a shit. Of course people got stirred up... of course people are going to raise their hackles... that's why the media does this sort of shit... that's their job... to find ignorant shit... take it out of context and then sell Lavitra to consumers. If they have to distort and even outright lie... who gives a shit? It sells and that's all that matters.

Now in response... some get all bent out of shape and try and make the issue bigger than it is... which of course feeds it until it takes on a life of its own. Others see the ruse for what it is and try to pacify and stamp out the fire before it gets to big to handle... that's the one's that are pissing you off right now btw... still others find that they can vent their racist ideology or whatever contrary ideology they espouse as this provides cover for their thinly veiled hate... mix all those people together and you got yourself a big shit stew courtesy of MSNBC. So yes... you are living in bizarro world... the same world you've been living in for the last 8 years so quit pretending anything you see is new... unless you haven't been paying attention and then... brace yourself... the fun is really just beginning. Right now we're fighting each other... wait... just wait... we ain't even began to dive into the gutter yet. The race for '08 hasn't even begun... if you can't stomach the primary... the GE is going to give you the shits.

16. Hey back up a little
"Quit pretending anything you see is new...unless you haven't been paying attention"

OOOOOO the foul language that came to my mind when I read this. Instead, I will say this. I am seeing new shit. What I speak of is how I see democrats on this website acting. It is crazy. I haven't been on DU for more than a year or so, so I wasn't here last primary season, but I would hope Dems weren't trashing Dems worse than repukes. If that is the case, I will leave DU.

The shit that the MSM and the rethugs do doesn't surprise me, but I wasn't talking about them. It is when Dems do it that bothers me.

20. LOL... it was just like this last year... it'll be just like this next year... it sucks but you...
...deal with it... or you don't. Some give up and go screaming into the ethernight crying, "You fuckers will never see me again." Though we usually do see them again... unless they get banned which is always fun... watching the supernova of a good DUer is hard but fun in a sad sort of way.

Anyway... grow some hide because I promise you, before November 3rd, the primary will be just a bittersweet memory... a little embarrassing... and a little dirty too so you'll miss it just a little. The GE is going to feel like being sodomized by a five foot gravel dildo but hopefully will pay off for us this year. I'm not counting any chickens though... One flap has sent the entire race apple cart careening off into crazy town so I can imagine what Republicans are going to bring to this dialog. You may want to take up a new passion by the end of this thing... I spend a great deal of time in history and religious studies and have delegated political issues to the dung heap where it belongs... but occasionally I come back just to keep the sword sharp and define my opinion... other than that the process is horrible and hatefilled and ignorant and mean-spirited and yet quintessentially American and Democratic. Bush was right... America would be easier if it was a Dictatorship... so long as I'm the dictator.

15. This particulary black man wants to be president of the US
which includes whites, and is always talking race. He would have done better to be not to run the race baiting campaign. I'll bet Rangel doesn't put down other races or even talk race during an election. I always liked Ford to, I never heard him talk race. The GOP did a disgusting hit on him though..
