As many of you have been, I too have been watching "John Adams."

Tonight it struck me as I watched the flag blow slowly across the screen...

It proclaimed: "Join, or Die"

And my mind came here, to our endless fighting...

And I knew at once that we must do as that flag said to our founding fathers...

Or we will have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory...

We must remember who the enemy is...

It is not ourselves...

But the Republicans...

We must not yield to the petty infighting, the war of words that I witness here daily...

The time is now...

We must

7. When I watch JOHN ADAMS, I don't think about this forum. AT ALL!

It's a great show--true to the book in key ways.

But I don't think we need to "Join, or Die."

That argument suggests we're all a bunch of weaklings who can't coalesce once this contest is finished. Demanding that the contest be finished prematurely is just foot-stomping. It won't make our choice stronger, it will make our choice complacent.

The tougher our candidate is made in the primary, the better said candidate will be able to withstand the assaults by the GOP and their surrogates in the general.

DU isn't the real world--people aren't as panicked about this as people here...or Bill Richardson. Really.

But we are scattering our energies by all the infighting.

Perhaps I could clarify: I didn't mean to suggest that we get behind one candidate or another now...

But we should stop the petty infighting, the attacks that only tear down, and that do not illuminate the issues.

I wonder why some people can't sell their own candidate, rather than crap on their candidate's opponent?

I suspect some people just like the fighting part; they don't care that our future is on the line.

It gets so heated in here, and you coming in to post this really says something. It is important to remember that the enemy isn't us, it IS the other party.

I haven't watched the series yet, plan on watching them On Demand, and waiting to get several to watch a couple a night, instead of having to wait a week. I'm glad you've been giving it good reviews.

Maybe another slogan we should think about

Choose or Perish.

And I'm not talking about choosing a candidate. I'm talking about we all have the choice of treating one another with dignity and respect. If someone disagrees with something that is posted, there are several ways to respond to it, understanding why someone posted something is better than resorting to name calling.

I've been labeled childish, cranky, and dishonest.:eyes:

This incident happened over an article I posted about Rush interfering with the Ohio vote, and the Democrats were considering legal options. I thought EVERYONE here was against election/voter fraud. I was attacked by a long term DUer, because they thought I was making a reference to their candidate.:shrug:
