I've been a member of DU for a very long time and have moderated too. This message board has been through "primary wars" before but never like this; never with the divisiveness that is a direct reflection of the internal struggle happening within the Democratic Party right now.

I have been vocal about my reasons for supporting Barack Obama; I have been equally vocal about my reasons for not supporting Hillary Clinton. I have tried to post thoughtful, positive information but I admit at times, my emotions take over and I resort to sniping at those who are here for what is a single-minded agenda; nominate Hillary Clinton at all costs. This strategy's cornerstone is the character destruction of Barack Obama, even if it means quoting sources that would be anathema to DU in any other circumstances. It also includes the curious tactic of elevating some members of the GOP to an esteemed status.

I do not intend for this post to turn into a long complaint about Clinton's campaign and the damage being done to the Democratic Party because of it. I do need to say one thing before I let this go.

At a time in this country when the Democratic Party is in the catbird seat and stands to regain the White House and a larger majority in Congress, the DLC and the Clintons have chosen to make this all about them; they are behaving selfishly without any regard to the good of the party and ultimately, the country. Carville's response to Richardson's endorsement of Obama is a perfect illustration of this mindset. According to him - Richardson has committed a sin against the Clintons - how dare he? How dare he publicly rebuke what is rightfully owed to Hillary Clinton?

I have had enough. I will continue to support Barack Obama and use my time contructively for his election to President of the United States. I will continue to post on DU because I love this message board; it will be here and I will be a member long after this election is over. At this point in time however, I have decided to step out of the craziness of GDP. Posting in this forum is an exercise in futility and one in which I cannot participate any longer.

I hope the Democratic Party can survive the wrath of the Clintons. I hope that instead of ripping us all apart at the seams, this election will eventually bring us together to support the nominee and defeat McCain in November.

So to those of you who are dedicated to the Democratic Party and remain after the dust settles, see you on the other side.

8. I'm just on the verge of following you out, sparsnare. I spent the weekend with

no TV news, watched Easter services from Trinity, and tried to read only positive posts here; but the cognitive dissonance is infectious. It wears on the soul and the spirit. It is not worth it when we are at a time when we have SO much positive and uplifting around us.

Its like condoning pollution and I wonder if the best solution wouldn't be to wait it out in a peaceful and happy place, wherever that might be for any of us who enjoy our peace of mind. Good post, thank you ! :hug: :hi:

10. I've been lurking on these forums for a couple of years now...

...and what I find interesting is the sudden influx of people who seem to be here for only one purpose: to smear one of the candidates. This has been mentioned many times before, but it seems to me that this is a tactic being used by both campaigns and several Republicans trolls who want to disrupt things around here.

I started out as a Kucinich supporter, then switched to Edwards, then, when Edwards dropped out, I had to look at both candidates and weigh the pros and cons of their bids for the big prize.

After the last couple months, I think I can sum up Hillary Clinton by using a quote from one of our finest American mystery writers, the late great Raymond Chandler:

"From 30 feet away she looked like a lot of class. From 10 feet away she looked like something made up to be seen from 30 feet away."

The closer I get to Obama, however, the more I realize he's the real thing. At least I certainly hope he is. And I can't do much more than hope.

My signature and nick, by the way, is my real name. I've never understood why so many people feel the need to hide behind anonymous nicknames. I suppose it gives them courage to bully and belittle others without fear of reprisal. It also allows trolls to come in with their quick hits to stir up trouble.

Other forums I visit stick to the policy that only real names are allowed on their forums. It seems to help with the civility problems places like DU have been experiencing lately.

While there is something to be said for using real names here, if that were the rule we'd have less participation. Anyone who works with the public in any way, shape, or form would feel that they could be less than candid in expressing their opinions. Eg, what if one had a Republican boss with great googling skills and idle curiosity? We'd end up with more lurkers than posters if we felt we had to watch everything we say here.

26. DU is a good source for finding the truth

No way I am giving up on DU, it's a great source for info thanks to so many on this site that do the searching for the rest of us, whether it is info for or against my chosen candidate. The videos, transcripts of speeches, news articles posted here help to sort reality from political hype. For now I am an Obama supporter. Come election day, the Democratic candidate gets my vote. We can not allow the repubs to trash our constitution and destroy the peoples' rights over the corporate rights that are now destroying all we stand for. McCain truly appears to be a carbon copy of Bush, stupid with tunnel vision. He will never get my vote.

Many of the rants against Obama or Hillary are insulting. We had a great choice of candidates this time and I have gone from Biden to Edwards to Obama as they spoke to what I felt this country Desperately needs, a real Democrat running this country. Having once been a Reagan democrat, oh the shame and stupidity, ugh, I hope to not be taken in by someone that does not specify what they will do. "Trust Me" won't work for me anymore. Hillary was eventually forced to be specific on so many issues. She than said I will be ready from day one. She was running on her husband's popularity and to get all to realize she was our answer to George the 2nd as Bill had fixed the problems that George the 1st caused. Many of us wanted her to explain her IWV and why she didn't vote on the amendment that would force bush to come back to Congress before beginning an attack on Iraq? Her recent vote to declare that a part of the Iranian military was a terrorist organization (that would allow stupid george to attack if he felt it was necessary). She wasn't specific about the economy. Oh hell, I'm rambling. Obama has related enough info to make me feel positive about his presidency, where Clinton appears more intent on bashing her Dem opponents and less concerned with the details of how she will run a country that is in need of some serious fixing!
