politics as usual just won't do. we have too much damage to repair. both externally and internally. hillary can't bring people together. she failed to get health care for everyone with a democratic house and senate. what makes you think she can bring people together now. we need to take a chance on change. we can't let the wounds fester any longer.

and on a completely different topic, i am amazed how so many on du are willing to use racist tactics to anger people. i don't think all these people are racist, like i don't think bill clinton, or ferraro are racists; but they are willing to use racist tactics to get out the racist vote.

sickening! let it sink!

1. Now she knows how to fight Big Pharma; she didn't then; Obama doesn't now
You like the guy, invite him for a beer.

3. Look out ... it's the racist tactics! Duck!!!
I have seen this depressing scenario so many election cycles ... true believers willing to lose for the cause. Nutz.

2. I disagree on the first point, but agree on the second
I think that if Obama gets the nomination but loses the general it would be a big setback for grassroots activism and for the kind of change we've been fighting for. If Obama loses the general the party in future years will be inclined to nominate "safe" candidates who are entrenched in Washington and are not inclined to want to change the system the way Obama does. I'd rather him get another chance in 4 or 8 years than get the nomination and lose the general now.

5. Let me make clear that I support the Dem
as the Rep is so much worse. That said, I think Obama has a better chance of bringing the country together. Whatever the reason, Hillary polarizes people. The Reps are salivating at the chance to run against her because it'll bring out their base, a base that otherwise will stay home because they're lukewarm about McCain. I do think there are racists who will never vote for Obama--I know one personally--but my hope is that the country has more people who long for a change for the better than it has racists. Hope will transcend fear.

9. there's no reason he can't
but there's also no reason to think that he will lose. he does better vs mccain then hillary does.

15. In other words, if McCain COULD beat Obama but not HRC -- you'd be 4 Obama? I'm a strong Obama ...
supporter, but not THAT strong! In any case, I think Obama has shown that, contrary to what is said on DU, he responds to some HARD punches quite well. One person suggested that Obama had only faced MILD hits, and was "unelectable", neither of which is true.

i'm willing to take a chance for something better, then taking a safe bet that won't pay out much change.
