John McCain's Pastors are Worse Than Obama's
Posted Mar 22nd 2008 10:16PM by Cenk Uygur

While Senator Obama's pastor has been ripped to shreds in the media, John McCain's have gotten a complete free ride. Did you know that the man John McCain calls his "spiritual guide" ( http://www.motherjones.com/washington_dispatch/2008/03/john-mccain-rod-parsley-spiritual-guide.html ) thinks the purpose of America is to get into a giant war with all of Islam and destroy it? Other than being bigoted, that's also insane. And how much have you heard about that guy? Who can even name who he is?

Other pastors whose endorsements John McCain has proudly accepted have blamed the city of New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina and America's liberal policies for the attacks of 9/11. How is that any different than what Rev. Wright said? Find out the heinous comments McCain's pastors have said here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HB1tGB9oR-4&eurl

The double standard that the press has for pastors that support Democrats and Republicans is insane. It is so brazen that I can't quite believe they don't see it for themselves.

Unfortunately, a lot of what drives our elections are not the most pressing issues of the day, like the Iraq War or the economy. It's what the press chooses to cover. And if they choose to beat Obama's pastor to a pulp and never cover McCain's pastors, do we really have a fair system that allows to choose between the different candidates with all the information we need? This is not a level playing field and it's hurting the country.

3. John McCain must reject and denounce those views
Otherwise I will be forced to believe that he agrees with those views.

4. Idiot letter to editor in Fort Worth claimed he had never heard "hate speech" from minister before
Fox aired Wright saying "God damn America". This is a bald faced lie. Everyone has heard these evangelicals saying that 9/11 happened because of abortion or Katrina happened because of gays or preachers talking about how we should arm ourselves and go kill Muslims---that is real hate speech and it falls from the mouth of the religious right every single day in this country.

9. McCain is not a member of any of those pastors churches, and
unlike obama who attends this church, (20 years now )but had to lie when confronted about not hearing any vile stuff said by wright is a lot different then some pastors endorsement.

10. Rev Wright is only a hateful cartoon in Foxed up clips.
Please. Get some real information. It's been posted all over this forum.

He attended LBJ AND helped Bill over his zipper problem. He holds six degrees AND has three presidential commendations. He built his church from less than 100 to 6k.

Is THIS the kind of man you want to smear thoughtlessly?

11. Those guys are not HIS pastors... they are endorsers... that is all.
I saw a McCain interview... this is what he said on the subject... he was weak with the religious right, and they reached out to anyone on that side of the party for endorsements and did not fully vet them first. he now wishes he had.

good answer.

12. I Strongly Disagree. Here A Few Points On Why...
Edited on Mon Mar-24-08 04:30 PM by ihavenobias
1)-According to Rod Parsley, McCain *actively* sought out his endorsement. Note that is NOT the same thing as Parsley randomly endorsing McCain. Also, McCain refers to Parsley as his "spiritual guide". Don't make it seem like they're distant acquaintances. Same with Hagee. McCain said he was "proud" to have his endorsement and even put it on his website.

2)-McCain referred to Falwell, Pat Robertson, etc. as "agents of intolerance". Awesome, points to McCain for that and he was right. Oh, shoot, except that he later decided to give a speech at Falwell's school to court the religious right...interesting how that works, and what a Maverick the man is!

3)-The most critical point and the bottom line on the religious figure issue is this: What impact, if any, will these figures have on an Obama or McCain presidency?

The answer for Obama is clearly little to none, and the little wouldn't be any negative impact. Obama will not be passing a "God damn America" act or a "I hate white America" act or whatever.

With McCain, the answer is not so clear. For the record, I do NOT think McCain shares the crazy religious beliefs espoused by his nutty religious figures. But unfortunately for us, I *do* think he shares their desire to continue and start more wars in The Middle East. And that is the fundamental issue at hand here.

McCain already has incentive to continue and start more war(s), for his own reasons, for his neocon adviser(s) reasons, for his lobbyist friend/contributor reasons and last but not least, for his religious right "let's hasten the rapture and start war with Iran" reasons.

The more vested interests there are on one side pushing for more war in The Middle East (for whatever reason), the more likely it is to happen. And that is exactly why the focus should be on McCain and war/Islam/The Middle East and not on BS issues regarding Wright. At the *very least*, there should be equal attention given to the two candidates on these issues instead of the 95/5 split the media has had.

13. Very well put, especially your last point!
I am more worried about more war than I am about what any pastor said.

14. As Always..."It's The Media, Stupid"!
Obama will win in spite of the media not because they didn't attack him to the end. They want someone who will let them keep control.
