Honesty and Fairness
Fairness and Honesty

A fair-minded man tries to see both sides of an argument. ~ Aesop's Fables

To me one of the most valued characteristics of being a Democratic member is "Fairness". All of my life, I have treated all I meet fairly and honestly. It is a quality I expect from others but unfortunately seldom receive outside the realm of true democracy. In a perfect world I would expect to see fairness and honesty from all. We are not living in a perfect world. Nor are we living in a world where all value the same virtues.

Does the average person living in America value the same principles and ideals? Maybe, maybe not. I believe the average person living in America should be a Democratic person. Cheating and dishonesty are mainly traits owned by the other party. I believe most Democratic people value above all else, fairness and honesty. Do we practice this in our lives one hundred percent of the time or are there times we are less than fair and not quite so honest? Yes, I would guess most of us have broken that rule a time or two.

How many times are you asked by someone you care about, "Am I too fat?" Or "Does this look good on me?" Yes, we do not always give quite so honest answers. As for fairness, are there times you have said or thought, "If I send a personal fax from my office, I really wouldn't be doing something wrong," or "I really worked hard to repair that car so I can use a can of oil for my car (from my employer)?" Are those actions being dishonest or unfair to your friends or employers?

Yes, they are. So we do live in a society wherein most of the people are dishonest and unfair.

Is this why we do nothing when we hear the following? "Only one candidate was on the Michigan ballot because all others removed their names because the DNC would not utilize election results in seating delegates." And then the one candidate whose name was on the ballot states that it was a fair election. What if this was the General Election and the opponent was the one on the ballot and was of the Republican Party? Would you still believe the results to be fair?

Absolutely not. So why are some Democratic members willing to overlook this? Don't they value true fairness and honesty? Don't they hold their candidate up to the same standards as they would expect an opponent to have? Do they believe the ends justify the means? Also, why would they spread rumors about their candidate's opponent not wanting a re-vote when that is not what he said? Do they actually believe they can convince the electors of Michigan to believe this so our votes can be lost again in November?

I don't know about you but fairness and honesty are important to me. If I would have chosen the candidate who states the results in Michigan were fair, I would be rethinking my choice.
