Obama U.S. SENATE Record
Edited on Tue Mar-25-08 03:11 AM by SunsetDreams
I found the BEEF - Obama's Senate Record
by Helenann
Thu Feb 21, 2008 at 02:19:52 PM PDT

It has really been bothering me - the charges that Obama is all talk and no action. Those of us who support him and have reviewed his record know there is no basis to this charge, but just to make sure, I went to the Congressional Record (www.thomas.gov) and did a search for bills sponsored or co-sponsored by Senator Obama in his three short years in the US Senate. I searched the 109th and 110th Congresses which cover the years 2005-2007.

In a nut shell I found:

Senator Obama has sponsored or co-sponsored 570 bills in the 109th and 110th Congress.

Senator Obama has sponsored or co-sponsored 15 bills that have become LAW since he joined the Senate in 2005.

Senator Obama has also introduced amendments to 50 bills, of which 16 were adopted by the Senate.

His record is in fact quite impressive for a junior Senator from Illinois.

Details below the fold.

This is not his Illinois Record

1. Obama has done more in the last few years in the senate
than HRC or McCain. Whether some people agree with what he'd done is one thing, but he's been more active than those two have since 2004.

7. Does anyone know where I could get a printable version of this impressive list.
I just had someone ask me about this yesterday. This particular gentleman who asked was previously a McCain supporter but has been very interested lately in what Obama has been saying.

We're in PA, so this is of particular interest right now.

you could try copying and pasting that to MS word or another program and printing it out.

Check with FrenchieCat also, I think she has a wealth of readily available information on him.

11. Your very welcome
Obama has a tremendous record, and what's listed above is just his U.S. Senate record, it doesn't include his years in the Illinois Senate, which was of greater length.

18. Thank you!
I appreciate concise lists that aren't just cut & paste spamming with no indication of how many are on the list more than once, which ones passed, etc.

Great job. :)

19. I have posted this a few times already...
This is why I am voting fo Obama, although I will support any Democrat in the GE.
These bills can be found on the website of the Library of Congress but to save you trouble, I'll post them here for you. This covers both IL and US senate.

1.Establish the Kate Mullany National Historic Site.
2.Support the goals and ideals of Better Hearing and Speech Month.
3.Recognize the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
4.Name courthouse after Thurgood Marshall.
5.Name courthouse after James L. Watson.
6.Name post office after John A. O'Shea.
7.Designate Aug. 7, 2003, as National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
8.Support the goals and ideals of National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
9.Honor the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton on the bicentennial of his death.
10.Congratulate the Syracuse Univ. Orange Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
11.Congratulate the Le Moyne College Dolphins Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
12.Establish the 225th Anniversary of the American Revolution Commemorative Program.
13.Name post office after Sergeant Riayan A. Tejeda.
14.Honor Shirley Chisholm for her service to the nation and express
condolences on her death.
15.Honor John J. Downing, Brian Fahey, and Harry Ford, firefighters who lost their lives on duty. Only five of Clinton's bills are, more substantive.
16.Extend period of unemployment assistance to victims of 9/11.
17.Pay for city projects in response to 9/11
18.Assist landmine victims in other countries.
19.Assist family caregivers in accessing affordable respite care.
20.Designate part of the National Forest System in Puerto Rico as
protected in the wilderness preservation system.
There you have it, the fact's straight from the Senate Record.
Now, I would post those of Obama's, but the list is too substantive, so I'll mainly categorize.
21.During the first (8) eight years of his elected service he sponsored over 820 bills.
22.He introduced 233 regarding healthcare reform, 125 on poverty and public assistance, 112 crime fighting bills, 97 economic bills, 60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills, 21 ethics reform bills, 15 gun control, 6 veterans affairs and many others.
23.His first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427. These included the
*Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 - became law,
*The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, - became law,
*The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, - passed the Senate,
*The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, - became law,
*The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, In committee, and many more.
In all, since entering the U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096. An impressive record, for someone who supposedly has no record according to some who would prefer that this comparison not be made public.
He's not just a talker -- He's a doer.
