For what it's worth, there IS a difference between calling someone "Judas" vs. "McCarthy"
Judas is a SYMBOL.

Joe McCarthy is a REAL PERSON of recent memory. There are still many, many people alive who suffered for what he did, and paid the price with their career or more.

I don't mean to offend religious people, but, although I attend church myself, I see the Bible as parable.

Using the word "Judas" and using the word "McCarthy" are not even remotely similar, IMO. Using the word Judas is like using the word Midas. There probably was a real Midas, but it's unlikely that whatever he touched turned golden.

so "judas" and all the profound betrayal that this implies to anyone in the Xian world (yes, even us non-Xians) v "McCarthy" who questioned patriotism like, oh, say... Bill Clinton did...

symbols are more powerful than real people, though i would concede that McCarthy is also a symbol....

3. First, I'm not insane, and second, there is a difference.
You don't have to agree, but calling someone insane is not constructive.

I, personally, see references from the Bible as being symbolic. I would also argue the same for mythological references.

6. Right. It's symbolic.
Carville's calling Richardson is a traitor. He's not actually saying that Richardson really is literally Judas Iscariot, a sword-wielding immmortal who cuts off the heads of other immortals to gain there power.

That's an important point. Thanks for pointing it out.

4. There's a difference between saying Obama "killed Jesus" and "he's a commie."
Those are two seperate things that Obama totally did.

He's finished. He should drop out now.

5. You must be joking.
Judas. The man who millions of people believe is responsible for the death of Christ.
vs.
McCarthy. A politician.

Your logic is incredibly flawed. Especially for a "Christian".

8. Sigh. If you don't see the difference, I can't explain it, then.
I personally think there is a huge difference. Sure, Carville is implying that Bill Richardson sold out Hillary Clinton. But I believe the Bible is parable. Some don't. Some people won't type out the word God.
