Clinton: Pledged delegates can switch sides
seriously how more desperate can you get
This is getting way to pathetic
why don't we stop all elections and just give Hillary the nomination if she wants it so bad

here is the article:

(CNN) — Hillary Clinton has again raised the prospect that "pledged" delegates — those awarded based on election results — might still be considered up for grabs.

"And also remember that pledged delegates in most states are not pledged,” she told the editorial board of the Philadelphia Daily News Monday. “You know there is no requirement that anybody vote for anybody. They're just like superdelegates."

On March 5, Clinton adviser Harold Ickes brought up the fact that pledged delegates are not legally bound to vote for the candidate they're pledged to – an idea that drew sharp criticism from supporters of rival Barack Obama.

The Clinton campaign said that they had not been planning to try to actively convince the Illinois senator's pledged delegates to switch sides, and would not do so in the future – but on a conference call with reporters Tuesday, Ickes defended Clinton’s Monday remarks and repeated his view that pledged delegates were free to switch their allegiance at any time.

5. Primaries are NOT Democratic
If they were there wouldn't be caucuses. The Primary is the tool that a Political Party uses to field the best candidate for an election.

13. What about Michigan and Florida?
Could be that they decide the nomination. Could be that they're not seated. Still being discussed and we will have to wait and see.

The Primaries are the mechanism to approve the nomination of the person best suited to win the General Election.

Remember, in Iowa she LOST support 70 days AFTER the caucuses.

(and BTW - I still LOVE that pic! :hi:)

11. Be careful what you wish for...
Weren't there a couple instances this season where a pledged delegate did switch sides... from Clinton to Obama?

14. Well, she tried with me yesterday
not very hard, mind you; I just got a stoopid robocall, so I hung up on her. In my state, you can "switch sides" up until the state convention, if you so choose. I choose not to.

18. Can't say for anywhere else
there's a thread on it in the Texas forum, though. I expect my convention to be complete, total chaos because the Hillary people refuse to share any authority over it & frankly, don't know what the hell they're doing in the first place. They think the welcoming committee is more important that nominations or credentials, & they've whined like crybabies over the restriction of campaign materials (it's being held at a local university & the party is not paying, so the school insisted on this in exchange) & threatened to report the College Dems (who are the student group sponsoring the convention & worked their asses off to get us the space) to the Dean. Hey geezers, what a way to piss off the young people, who btw, are supporting YOUR candidate!! Not only that, they said at the planning meeting that they were treated like 3 year olds by the older folks in the party.

So I might have to hit the hard liquor before I come back & report here about what happened....who knows...maybe we'll get on national tv again..... :eyes:

15. Why in the blue hell would an Obama delegate switch?
There is absolutely no reason to. Will the Clintons start personally inviting all the pledged delegates to their home for dinner and kool-aid?

17. Pledged delegates...can NOT JUST SWITCH sides
Hillary know this.....to be a FACT...

They must remain with the cancidate the county party chose for them to vote for....they can switch if and when the opposition candidate has more delegates...Hillary is implying they can switch when ever they choose....I am getting so tired of having to vote for the lesser of two evils......not saying OBAMA is evil only the evil choice would be Clinton and McCain...

20. In Texas?
Because in Iowa they can.

A delegate is seated supporting the candidate they chose at caucus, but upon alignment they can go wherever they want (as long as that choice has 15% support of the body of the convention).

Are you in Texas? What are the rules?

22. I think you are wrong about that
Technically, pledged delegates can change sides. The question is, will they? Very unlikely. In the first place, they are chosen to represent the voters for a specific candidate because they are activists for that candidate. They are expected to act in good conscience for that candidate. What they might consider is whether or not they want a political future and that is a pretty good amount of pressure for them to do as expected. However, there is no rule that stops them from acting in bad conscience, if they are swayed to a different candidate, or if mitigating circumstances call for throwing support elsewhere.

19. Let Hillary keep talking like this. It's turning off the Super Delegates in droves.
The Clinton campaign is off the rails and the crash is coming. Brace yourselves because it is not going to be pretty.

23. As a pledged delegate for Obama, I wish the Clinton campaign would call me to get me to switch
So I could tell them to go piss up a fucking rope.
