SHAME ON YOU HILLARY CLINTON
Edited on Tue Mar-25-08 04:56 PM by Stephanie

Your desperation is showing. Your selfishness is monstrous. You've become an embarrassment to yourself and to the Democratic Party.

Since you bring up the topic, Hillary, shall we discuss YOUR religious affiliations? See below.

Obama Campaign Reponds to Clinton's Criticism of Wright
by Katharine Jose | March 25, 2008

Earlier today the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review published an http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/breaking/s_558930.html">interview with Hillary Clinton in which she said of Barack Obama's pastor Jeremiah Wright:

"He would not have been my pastor," Clinton said. "You don't choose your family, but you choose what church you want to attend."

Obama spokesman Bill Burton just responded:

“After originally refusing to play politics with this issue, it’s disappointing to see Hillary Clinton’s campaign sink to this low in a transparent effort to distract attention away from the story she made up about dodging sniper fire in Bosnia. The truth is, Barack Obama has already spoken out against his pastor’s offensive comments and addressed the issue of race in America with a deeply personal and uncommonly honest speech. The American people deserve better than tired political games that do nothing to solve the larger challenges facing this country."

The exchange is taking place in the context of a broader, ongoing push on the Wright issue by Clinton and her supporters, including, so far, Lanny Davis, Joe Wilson and Niall O'Dowd.

Hillary's Nasty Pastorate
The Nation: When It Comes To Unsavory Religious Affiliations, Clinton Is A Lot More Vulnerable Than Obama
Comments 54
March 21, 2008
by Barbara Ehrenreich.

There's a reason Hillary Clinton has remained relatively silent during the flap over intemperate remarks by Barack Obama's former pastor, Jeremiah Wright. When it comes to unsavory religious affiliations, she's a lot more vulnerable than Obama.

You can find all about it in a widely under-read article in the September 2007 issue of Mother Jones, in which Kathryn Joyce and Jeff Sharlet reported that "through all of her years in Washington, Clinton has been an active participant in conservative Bible study and prayer circles that are part of a secretive Capitol Hill group known as "The "Fellowship," also known as The Family. But it won't be a secret much longer. Jeff Sharlet's shocking exposé The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power will be published in May.

Sean Hannity has called Obama's church a "cult," but that term applies far more aptly to Clinton's "Family," which is organized into "cells" - their term - and operates sex-segregated group homes for young people in northern Virginia. In 2002, Sharlet joined The Family's home for young men, forswearing sex, drugs and alcohol, and participating in endless discussions of Jesus and power. He wasn't undercover; he used his own name and admitted to being a writer. But he wasn't completely out of danger either. When he went outdoors one night to make a cell phone call, he was followed. He still gets calls from Family associates asking him to meet them in diners - alone.

The Family's most visible activity is its blandly innocuous National Prayer Breakfast, held every February in Washington. But almost all its real work goes on behind the scenes - knitting together international networks of right-wing leaders, most of them ostensibly Christian. In the 1940s, The Family reached out to former and not-so-former Nazis, and its fascination with that exemplary leader, Adolf Hitler, has continued, along with ties to a whole bestiary of murderous thugs. As Sharlet reported in Harper's in 2003:

During the 1960s the Family forged relationships between the U.S. government and some of the most anti-Communist (and dictatorial) elements within Africa's postcolonial leadership. The Brazilian dictator General Costa e Silva, with Family support, was overseeing regular fellowship groups for Latin American leaders, while, in Indonesia, General Suharto (whose tally of several hundred thousand "Communists" killed marks him as one of the century's most murderous dictators) was presiding over a group of fifty Indonesian legislators. During the Reagan Administration the Family helped build friendships between the U.S. government and men such as Salvadoran general Carlos Eugenios Vides Casanova, convicted by a Florida jury of the torture of thousands, and Honduran general Gustavo Alvarez Martinez, himself an evangelical minister, who was linked to both the CIA and death squads before his own demise.

At the heart of The Family's American branch is a collection of powerful right-wing politicos, who include, or have included, Sam Brownback, Ed Meese, John Ashcroft, James Inhofe and Rick Santorum. They get to use The Family's spacious estate on the Potomac, The Cedars, which is maintained by young men in Family group homes and where meals are served by The Family's young women's group. And, at The Family's frequent prayer gatherings, they get powerful jolts of spiritual refreshment, tailored to the already powerful.

Clinton fell in with The Family in 1993, when she joined a Bible study group composed of wives of conservative leaders like Jack Kemp and James Baker. When she ascended to the Senate, she was promoted to what Sharlet calls the Family's "most elite cell," the weekly Senate Prayer Breakfast, which included, until his downfall, Virginia's notoriously racist Senator George Allen. This has not been a casual connection for Clinton. She has written of Doug Coe, The Family's publicity-averse leader, that he is "a unique presence in Washington: a genuinely loving spiritual mentor and guide to anyone, regardless of party or faith, who wants to deepen his or her relationship with God."

Furthermore, The Family takes credit for some of Clinton's rightward legislative tendencies, including her support for a law guaranteeing "religious freedom" in the workplace, such as for pharmacists who refuse to fill birth control prescriptions and police officers who refuse to guard abortion clinics.

What drew Clinton into the sinister heart of the international right? Maybe it was just a phase in her tormented search for identity, marked by ever-changing hairstyles and names: Hillary Rodham, Mrs. Bill Clinton, Hillary Rodham Clinton and now Hillary Clinton. She reached out to many potential spiritual mentors during her White House days, including New Age guru Marianne Williamson and the liberal rabbi Michael Lerner. But it was the Family association that stuck.

Sharlet generously attributes Clinton's involvement to the under-appreciated depth of her religiosity, but he himself struggles to define The Family's theological underpinnings. The Family avoids the word Christian but worships Jesus, though not the Jesus who promised the earth to the "meek." They believe that, in mass societies, it's only the elites who matter, the political leaders who can build God's "dominion" on earth. Insofar as The Family has a consistent philosophy, it's all about power - cultivating it, building it and networking it together into ever-stronger units, or "cells." "We work with power where we can," Doug Coe has said, and "build new power where we can't."

Obama has given a beautiful speech on race and his affiliation with the Trinity United Church of Christ. Now it's up to Clinton to explain - or, better yet, renounce - her long-standing connection with the fascist-leaning Family.

I'm so ashamed that so many of us have been suckered by him. And that he stayed in that church with that hater pastor is proof of his stupidity. I mean, who goes to church to be yelled at for 2-3 hours? And with his kids besides? I hope Clinton cleans his clock good and proper.

65. And
I love you too Steph. Wright or Obama or Clinton have not said or done anything to make me wretch or turn pale with distraughtness, but some of what I read here is both amusing and at the same time very sad. I fail to see any motivation for the level of downright hatred being displayed by many Obama supporters here. Do Obama supporters want Hillary supporters to just stay home come November? I really have to step back and take a look from afar to answer the question, who is tearing the party apart.

33. not until you get done...
feasting on the corpse of Reverend Wright.

Born on September 22, 1941, in Philadelphia
Reverend Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. is one of the most widely acclaimed black preachers in the United States. Combining social concern, spiritual growth, and political activism, Wright, who preaches in a black traditional style, brings a message of hope, redemption, and renewal. In 1972 he became pastor of a small United Church of Christ congregation in the inner city of Chicago. After over 30 years in the pulpit, his congregation has grown to 10,000 and is the largest United Church of Christ congregation in the United States.
In 1959 Wright enrolled at Virginia Union University, in Richmond, where he remained until 1961. That year he left school to join the military. He served in the Second Marine Division of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1961 to 1963, achieving the rank of private first class. In 1963 he graduated as valedictorian from the Great Lakes Naval Training Center, and from 1964 to 1967, he served as a cardio pulmonary technician at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland.
During 1965 and 1966, he was awarded with three Presidential Commendations from President Lyndon B. Johnson.

After his discharge from the military, Wright continued his education. He enrolled at Howard University in Washington, D.C., in 1967, and was awarded a bachelor's degree in 1968 and a master's degree in 1969. He then entered the University of Chicago Divinity School, receiving a master of arts degree in 1975. He ended his formal education in 1990 when he earned a Doctor of Ministry degree in black sacred music from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
----------------------------------------------
When Wright joined the staff of Trinity United Church of Christ as senior pastor, the inner city church boasted just 87 active members, most of whom came from the neighborhood surrounding the church. Wright embraced his new congregation took up the phrase coined by his predecessor Rev. Dr. Reuben Sheares, "Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian." Within months the church had adopted the phrase as its motto and vision. Under Wright's leadership, fueled by his passion, and motivated by his preaching, the congregation began to grow by leaps and bounds. By 2004 there were over 10,000 members, with
people coming from across the metro area. The congregation, which proudly notes its diverse socio-economic mix, dedicated a new 2,700 worship center in 1997.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Wright has authored several books, including Africans Who Shaped Our Faith, Good News! Sermons of Hope for Today's Families, and What Makes You So Strong? Sermons of Joy and Strength from Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. According to Cleophus J. LaRue in The Heart of Black Preaching, in his title sermon of What Makes You So Strong, Wright "demonstrates the power of the mighty sovereign at work in the lives of black people in twentieth century America. This sermon focuses on the root of black strength and survivability. Wright makes it clear throughout the sermon that the source of all strength, and especially black strength, is none other than the Spirit of God." As in his preaching, in his writing Wright focuses on the
dual issues of corporate concern and spiritual sustenance. His latest publication, What Can Happen When We Pray: A Daily Devotional, was published in 2002.
In recognition of his contributions, Wright has been awarded seven honorary doctoral degrees. He has also served on a number of boards and commissions, including serving on the board of trustees for Virginia Union University and Chicago Theological Seminary. He continues to be a highly sought after preacher,
teacher, and lecturer.

78. Wright's Words
“I heard Ambassador Peck on an interview yesterday did anybody else see or hear him? He was on FOX News, this is a white man, and he was upsetting the FOX News commentators to no end, he pointed out, a white man, an ambassador, he pointed out that what Malcolm X said when he was silenced by Elijah Mohammad was in fact true, he said Americas chickens, are coming home to roost.”

“We took this country by terror away from the Sioux, the Apache, Arikara, the Comanche, the Arapaho, the Navajo. Terrorism.

“We took Africans away from their country to build our way of ease and kept them enslaved and living in fear. Terrorism.

“We bombed Grenada and killed innocent civilians, babies, non-military personnel.

“We bombed the black civilian community of Panama with stealth bombers and killed unarmed teenage and toddlers, pregnant mothers and hard working fathers.

“We bombed Qaddafi’s home, and killed his child. Blessed are they who bash your children’s head against the rock.

“We bombed Iraq. We killed unarmed civilians trying to make a living. We bombed a plant in Sudan to pay back for the attack on our embassy, killed hundreds of hard working people, mothers and fathers who left home to go that day not knowing that they’d never get back home.

“We bombed Hiroshima. We bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon and we never batted an eye.

“Kids playing in the playground. Mothers picking up children after school. Civilians, not soldiers, people just trying to make it day by day.

“We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff that we have done overseas is now brought right back into our own front yards. America’s chickens are coming home to roost.

“Violence begets violence. Hatred begets hatred. And terrorism begets terrorism. A white ambassador said that y’all, not a black militant. Not a reverend who preaches about racism. An ambassador whose eyes are wide open and who is trying to get us to wake up and move away from this dangerous precipice upon which we are now poised. The ambassador said the people we have wounded don’t have the military capability we have. But they do have individuals who are willing to die and take thousands with them. And we need to come to grips with that.”

If you were from one of these countries can't you see you might just be saying "God Damn America!"
Rev. Wright was speaking for all the families around the world that have been killed and abused by American governments in the past. Done in our name. And he was quoting a former Iraq US ambassador that said the chickens are coming home to roost. I find the fact that Americans are not allowed to speak of the REASONS for the 9/11 attack particularly disturbing. Until Americans accept some of the responsibility on behalf of present and past government bad foreign behavior, and attack truth-sayers like Rev. Wright, instead of heeding his wise, though firey, words, this nation will never grow up.

"He would not have been my pastor," Clinton said. "You don't choose your family, but you choose what church you want to attend."

34. She's really starting to piss me off. And even worse...
She's starting to piss off one of her most ardent advocates, Miz t.
Not that anyone here gives a crap, or should.

Of the choices we're left with, I've been leaning Obama.
I still miss John Edwards.
Miz t. has been a Hillary gal since Edwards dropped out.

We're a house divided, but we don't argue about it.
And I'm not sure how divided we are any more.
We both said we'd vote for whoever gets the nomination.
Still will.

OK, she was asked a direct question.
That's no reason to do her Goody Two-Shoes act.
I would have said "That's entirely between him and his pastor. It would be inappropriate for me to comment on someone else's personal relationships."
And everyone would have applauded her for it.
Is she thinking this up on her own, or is this 'advisor' talk?

49. "The Revealer: Everybody Loves Jesus"
"Coe listed other men who had changed the world through the strength of the covenants they had forged with their “brothers”: “Look at Hitler,” he said. “Lenin, Ho Chi Minh, Bin Laden.” The Family, of course, possessed a weapon those leaders lacked: the “total Jesus” of a brotherhood in Christ.

That's what you get with a covenant,” said Coe. “Jesus plus nothing.”

62. H. Clinton really needs to think about her Senate seat.
Her awful, rotten campaign is only exposing her as a rotten republican liar, masquerading as a Democrat.

Is she so shortsighted she can't see this will affect her chances at re-election?

Probably. She probably thinks she is a shoe-in for that too.

67. What's funny is that this may never see the light of MSM day
She is a full bore hypocrite.

"You don't choose your family members..." Really? You chose your husband. You chose to stay with your husband. That is a family member. She has obviously chosen the church she goes to. She also chose the people she wants to associate with.

I wonder if she is really a Democrat or a Republican in Democratic outerwear.

71. For those who don't like Enrenreich, maybe this piece in Mother Jones will
enlightened you as to Hillary real religious affiliations:
Hillary's Prayer: Hillary Clinton's Religion and Politics
For 15 years, Hillary Clinton has been part of a secretive religious group that seeks to bring Jesus back to Capitol Hill. Is she triangulating—or living her faith?" />

Kathryn Joyce and Jeff Sharlet" />
September 01" /> , 2007" />

It was an elegant example of the Clinton style, a rhetorical maneuver subtle, bold, and banal all at once. During a Democratic candidate forum in June, hosted by the liberal evangelical group Sojourners, Hillary Clinton fielded a softball query about Bill's infidelity: How had her faith gotten her through the Lewinsky scandal?

After a glancing shot at Republican "pharisees," Clinton explained that, of course, her "very serious" grounding in faith had helped her weather the affair. But she had also relied on the "extended faith family" that came to her aid, "people whom I knew who were literally praying for me in prayer chains, who were prayer warriors for me."

Such references to spiritual warfare—prayer as battle against Satan, evil, and sin—might seem like heavy evangelical rhetoric for the senator from New York, but they went over well with the Sojourners audience, as did her call to "inject faith into policy." It was language that recalled Clinton's Jesus moment a year earlier, when she'd summoned the Bible to decry a Republican anti-immigrant initiative that she said would "criminalize the good Samaritan...and even Jesus himself." Liberal Christians crowed ("Hillary Clinton Shows the Way Democrats Can Use the Bible," declared a blogger at TPMCafe) while conservative pundits cried foul, accusing Clinton of scoring points with a faith not really her own.

In fact, Clinton's God talk is more complicated—and more deeply rooted—than either fans or foes would have it, a revelation not just of her determination to out-Jesus the gop, but of the powerful religious strand in her own politics. Over the past year, we've interviewed dozens of Clinton's friends, mentors, and pastors about her faith, her politics, and how each shapes the other. And while media reports tend to characterize Clinton's subtle recalibration of tone and style as part of the Democrats' broader move to recapture the terrain of "moral values," those who know her say there's far more to it than that.

Through all of her years in Washington, Clinton has been an active participant in conservative Bible study and prayer circles that are part of a secretive Capitol Hill group known as the Fellowship. Her collaborations with right-wingers such as Senator Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) and former Senator Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) grow in part from that connection. "A lot of evangelicals would see that as just cynical exploitation," says the Reverend Rob Schenck, a former leader of the militant anti-abortion group Operation Rescue who now ministers to decision makers in Washington. "I don't....there is a real good that is infected in people when they are around Jesus talk, and open Bibles, and prayer."

http://www.motherjones.com/cgi-bin/print_article.pl?url...

Personally I'll take Reverend Wright over this bunch. People need to listen to more of this brilliant man -- not just the snippets that seem to play in an endless loop on TV.

74. The Fellowship
This group is merely another manifestation of the "neo-con artists" who in this case are merely conning themselves into believing that they are "destined" by "divine providence" to lay the foundation for a new world order based on oligarchy and in some ways on theocracy in the sense that they believe they are "God's chosen people." They believe they are the new body of Christ and they are the new redeemers.

The Clintons have been part of this "new world order" from the beginning. These people are not Republican or Democrat. They merely use the party system to gain office according to demographics and political winds which change from time to time.

There is little difference between the Bushes or the Clintons and only a total fool thinks otherwise. A picture is worth a thousand words and there must be a thousand pictures at this point of the Bushes and Clintons together. Enjoying their dynasty.

What's left of our democracy will not survive if Hillary Clinton becomes president. And if she wins the nomination, she will become president.

That is why they chose John McCain as the Republican candidate. Because they know Hillary Clinton can beat him.

I worry about what they are capable of doing to ensure the nomination and the presidency of Hillary Clinton.

77. OUT with the Kitchen Sink, IN with Tonya Harding tactics
Tweety gets full credit for describing this stragegy. Simply (and ruthlessly) kneecap your opponent with a relentless barrage of negativity so they won't be able to compete in the big contest. Hillary may not take the prize either, but with Obama crippled up real good, it's still a great "moral" victory. Thanks Tonya! Your creative inspiration and superior sportsmanship continues to this day.

I'm serious.
I watched the clips of that editorial meeting (meeting? farfetched calling it that) and the press conference.
She looks plain ol' tuckered out.
That, or the make-up person was absent.
Maybe now make-up person to Obama? JK!!!!

Anyway, if she isn't beat yet, she's looking the part.
A ploy for our sympathy?
Nah.

She's one pooped puppy.
