As I was cooking dinner this evening, I realized why this particular Bosnia lie bothers me so much. If you have ever been in a war situation with your child, you don't "misremember" it. You don't "misspeak." It is not a casual event. You remember. Every jolting boom, thud, and bang and every time your heart nearly leapt out of your chest. You remember the helplessness of the situation and that your first fear was how you protect your child. You don't file it away with the memory of shopping trips. You remember.
