Barack Obama just released the last seven years of his tax returns... again.

They are posted on his website for the entire world to scrutinize.

And today, when asked about her own tax records, Hillary Clinton merely deflected and dodged, saying that what Obama did wasn't enough! He needs to go back further and release his tax returns from the late 90's too!

How dare her. How dare her supporters! She hasn't released a damned thing and she is going to say he "made a nice first step."

Who the hell does she think she is?

This is not the United States of Clinton!

There's little reason to think Hillary would be asked to disclose as much of her taxes as she is being asked. There's also the fact that she is delaying as much as possible. If she has nothing to hide, then there is no reason for this. If there is only a small issue, then releasing it now would be best (it would blow over quickly, long before any primaries). Why wait so long to do anything? I honestly see zero reason for this unless she has something on her taxes that will hurt her.

And Obama has his full voting record available for the senate. There are also a few years where earmarks were recorded. Beyond that he only had 1 assistant, and I think given that it would be pretty difficult to keep extensive records. Especially after he left that State Senate. There's no reason to think he is lying about this, given how much disclosure he has given of his current Senate work. He's come completely clean on Rezko, and there is basically nothing there, certainly nothing even remotely illegal. The only reason his State Senate records are even being pushed by Hillary is because Obama has already released so much information, and there is nothing bad in that released info. Making an issue of records that don't necessarily even exist is one of the few gambits she has left, and helps her avoid answering questions about when she is going to release more of her Earmarks, like Obama, or any of her tax returns since 2000.

Honestly, Hillary is smart, she knows that if she released that info she'd be on a much better ground to attack Obama. So why hasn't she done anything? There's no significant effort involved in this release. At the very best, it means she has an overdeveloped sense of secrecy, and just doesn't want anyone delving into her records. I don't think that's something we want to have in Washington; we have too much unnecessary secrecy already. We want the Government to be more Open, not less.

The state senate seat that he is using for his experience has no records so he can invent any story he likes. There is plenty of reason to think he would lie. He has been caught again and again, although his followers refuse to admit it.

I talked about a lot besides Rezko and his Senate seat. You didn't address any of the points I made about Clinton. I'd appreciate a response to those.

As for Rezko, his story has stayed consistent overall. The Tribune itself thought so. While he did underplay his overall relationship in a single debate, he didn't lie there, nor did has he lied about it since. The idea that his story keeps changing on Rezko is a myth. Elaborating on previous information is not revising a story in the sense of changing facts. Beyond that, did you attack and hold a negative view of the Clintons regarding Whitewater? Did you wait until the matter was dropped by legal authorities before deciding the Clintons were clean? I suspect you did not, which is a profound double-standard considering Obama isn't even implicated in anything illegal or nefarious regarding Rezko.

As for his senate record, he has his full voting record available for anyone to pursue. It is not as though he has "zero record" on what he did in the state senate.

And Hillary herself has raised the tax issue in the past. In her 2000 election she attacked her opponent for not releasing taxes -- she didn't think it was a non-issue then. She hasn't released any tax returns since that election. Now she is delaying for no reason. If this isn't an issue, if she has nothing to hide, then why delay? Do you have a decent answer for that beyond her being overly secretive? I'd love to have your opinion on this.

Beyond that, why do you think tax returns in general are a non-issue? Does it not matter what tax loopholes a candidate uses? Does it not matter where they got their money or how they spent it? Is that somehow unimportant in determining the character of a candidate or how they actually behave regarding money? It isn't like there are not a ton of legal ways to be slimy with money, after all.
