6. I don't think it proves that, but it does prove that they're not true Democrats.

7. Lots of voters can't decide between Hillary and McCain. Flip a coin.
Heads you lose, tails you lose.

9. The Clintons are the leaders of the DLC wing (Repub lite) of the Democratic Party.
Edited on Wed Mar-26-08 10:21 AM by invictus
They feel very comfortable with a lot of Republican positions on war, corporate welfare, restriction of civil liberties, free trade, outsourcing, etc. The DLC are the Republicans who stab us in the back instead of the front.

3. I don't buy this.
Come election day, they will not vote for a war mongering anti-choice corporate right winger who wants clones of Roberts and Alito on the SC.

4. those are probably the limbaugh republican who voted for hillary
she must know a fraction of her support comes from repug who just want her to continue on and so they can face her instead of obama. if she doesn't she is delusional. she can't flip people to her side like obama can.

5. What do you expect with Hillary kissing McCain's ass about he's ready to be commander in chief
and she's ready but Obama isn't. It's as close to an endorsement of a GOP rival as you can get without actually coming out and saying she would support McCain over Obama and 28% of her supporters are following her lead.

8. Those people are not Democrats. I detest Hillary, but will vote for her if she is the
nominee.

No Democrat would vote for a candidate who would appoint judges like scalia and thomas, or who was against honoring Martin Luther King, or was up to his neck in the S&L crisis, or who voted FOR the use of torture by the CIA, in spite of his experience as a POW

I could go on, but just look at his voting record, and it will be realized very quickly that these people are not Democrats

12. I don't believe it. Has it happened before--
A quarter of people claiming to want a particular Democratic nominee switch parties and vote for the Republican in the GE because their guy lost? Has it happened to Republicans?

Couldn't read the whole article, but you're gonna have to prove that to me.

In the end, most people either hold their noses and vote for the other guy or, more likely, stay home.

A *real* problem in the Democratic party.

I believe a quarter might stay home.

19. This has happened in every recent presidential election
We suffer from more Democrats defecting to vote for the Republican candidate than vice versa in every recent presidential election. We have a bigger tent, which actually means we have more lukewarm Democrats than they have lukewarm Republicans. This trend really took hold in the election of 1980, hence the coining ot the term "Reagan Democrats" to describe such crossover voters.

You're absolutely right that most people will vote for their party's nominee, but some do vote for the candidate of the opposing party. Every election cycle, this has meant a net gain for the Republicans. Though Bush's "margin of victory" in 2000 was nonexistent, if no Democrats had voted for him, or if even slightly fewer had done so, we would have had two terms of Gore.

I don't have any idea what the rate of Republican voting by Democrats will be in the 2008 general election. 25% is very unlikely, no matter who our nominee is. The more important issue will be who will win among independents, a group that Obama has had great success with. If Obama can limit the defections of the so-called "Reagan Democrats" while continuing to do well with independents, he can beat McCain soundly. I think that there's a greater danger of more of the party's base staying home on election day if Obama's the nominee, because the Obama people will vote for the Democratic nominee, no matter what, whereas (at least according to what we've seen on DU, and in this and other polls) Clinton supporters seem more likely to become embittered. That being said, Obama's strength among independents should more than make up for the "sour grapes" crowd.

13. I think it's a group of people playing the fear card.
They think if they threaten to vote for McSame if their girl doesn't get the nom, then voters in the remaining states and the SD will vote for Hillary now to keep Obama from getting the nom and thus prevent them from voting for McSame in the GE.

It's a case of 'I'll take my toys and go home, if I don't get my own way'. Pitiful.

14. A lot of Dean supporters said the same thing back in the day.
I think it's a matter of wanting to really emphasize their support for their candidate. When the time comes, however, the vast majority of them will vote for Obama.

People in both camps say this. Why? Because they're playing chicken with the other camp and they know it.

They'll back down when they realize that the other truck ain't turning off the road.

People say these things during primaries to make the opposition candidate APPEAR WEAKER.

so what's the game plan? Get McCain in there so the "great and wonderful" Hillary can run in 2012? Four more years of Wars and invasions so Hillary can have another chance at the White House...that's just brilliant! Hard to believe 1/3 of her supporters would be that dumb.
