Garlic noses? WTH? Is Jeremiah nuts?
Are there any races besides his, that he accepts?

<snip>Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., pastor emeritus of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago where Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) has been a member for two decades, slurred Italians in a piece published in the most recent issue of Trumpet Newsmagazine.

"(Jesus') enemies had their opinion about Him," Wright wrote in a eulogy of the late scholar Asa Hilliard in the November/December 2007 issue. "The Italians for the most part looked down their garlic noses at the Galileans."

Wright continued, "From the circumstances surrounding Jesus' birth (in a barn in a township that was under the Apartheid Roman government that said his daddy had to be in), up to and including the circumstances surrounding Jesus' death on a cross, a Roman cross, public lynching Italian style. ...

11. Obama has already publicly disagreed with Wright's viewpoints.... and...
...he has never, in his history, uttered anything remotely similar to Wright's hate speech.

I know this is a hard concept for you to understand, but:

Obama IS NOT Wright

Wright IS NOT Obama

Judge Obama on *HIS* views and *HIS* statements. If Obama made the statements that Wright did, I would not be supporting him.

And yes, they are tied together. Obama cannot erase 20 years of hate-filled sermons from his memory or his beliefs.

He chose this Pastor for a reason.

44. You are lying... er... "mis-stating"...
Edited on Wed Mar-26-08 01:10 PM by scheming daemons
A) There hasn't been a single sermon of Wright's from before September of 2001 that has been shown to be "hate-filled". So it is, as far as you know, *7* years of hate-speech... not 20.

B) Hearing a hate-filled sermon does NOT mean agreeing with it. Do you agree with EVERYTHING you hear, even from friends and family and, yes, pastors?

C) He chose his pastor in 1988. Please show a "hate-filled" sermon from back then. For all you know, Obama was a member of a church for more than a decade before Wright uttered anything resembling the sermons we have seen.

I have friends and mentors too... Doesn't mean I agree with them.

Unless you can find *SOME* instance where Obama has agreed with *ANYTHING* hate-filled that Wright said, you simply cannot make the assumption that Obama believes the same things that Wright does.

If he believes those things... then SURELY you can find at least ONE instance in the past 20 years where Obama has publicly indicated as much.

You can't.

People are complex and unique. They don't believe 100% what ANYBODY else believes, even their closest friends and families.

Obama was asked if he agreed with Wright's viewpoints. He said no. Prove otherwise, or STFU.

If there is nothing there, you Oompas would'nt be losing your minds over this. It's the truth, live with it. Obama was influenced so much by this man, he wrote a book based on his "sermons", that is the truth.

He was mentored by a hate-filled racist for 20 years. If there was nothing wrong with the Pastor he would'nt have thrown him under the bus.

66. Lying again...

"he wrote a book based on his "sermons""

He wrote a book based in part on *ONE* of his sermons... and one that has not a controversial viewpoint in it at all. The "Audacity of Hope" sermon... which anyone can find on google now... has not one SHRED of "hate speech" and has words that 99% of decent people would agree with.

"If there is nothing there, you Oompas would'nt be losing your minds over this."

Swift-boating doesn't have to be true to be effective. Less than 5 minutes of Wright's sermons over 30 years and literally THOUSANDS of hours has been broadcast. You are basing your entire view of the man on less than 1% of what he has said in his sermons.

And even if the other 99% of his sermons were consistent with the 1%.... that fact would have NO BEARING WHATSOEVER on whether Obama shared those views.

"If there was nothing wrong with the Pastor he would'nt have thrown him under the bus."

He specifically DIDN'T throw him "under the bus." He specifically said that he CANNOT disown the entire man, just because he has said some bad things.

You can lie all you want.... and it may work, since people tend to believe lies.... but you are being just like your candidate... you are making shit up.

Since Obama spent 20 years in that church without leaving, it means he agrees with Wright.

Therefore.... Hillary Clinton must think it is ok to have sex with interns and to lie under oath.

61. Perhaps because.....

A) He's been a member for two decades, and has established relationships with the his fellow parishoners. A church, especially one with 8000 members, is *MUCH* more than a pastor.

B) Trinity is the only large UCC church in the Chicago area.

C) As recently as a few years ago it became clear that Wright was near retirement and there would be a new pastor.

D) The portrayals of Wright that you have seen... the 30 second clips from 5 or 6 sermons over 30 years... represent only 1-2% of what Wright has said and the other 98% is banal and not controversial. Leaving the church because you disagree with 1 out of every 50 or 100 sermons would be throwing the baby out with the bathwater, don't you think?

After all... there *IS* a reason that the Clinton white house invited Jeremiah Wright to a prayer breakfast in 1998. You've only seen a grand total of maybe 5 minutes of sermons from Wright out of THOUSANDS of hours... from the 5 minutes, you are surmising that *ALL* of Wright's sermons are the same.

That may simply not be true.

Your take on the whole Wright thing is tired and specious at best.

There are a couple hundred scripted murders in television shows every week in this country.

Millions have watched these programs on television for 20 years and it hasn't turned them into murderers, has it?

One nice thing about being an adult is we can discriminate as to what we accept as fact.

In the case of all this "Wright stuff", I'm thinking it's intellectually lazy. Like mainstream television.

31. Wright's influence over Obama is not over by a long shot!!
and is a major stumbling block for Obama. Obama disrespects the Constitution's view and Right of every citizen to the of "Separation of Church and State". Probably why he doesn't use the customary hand over heart during the anthem or the Pledge of Allegiance because Obama doesn't believe in the Separation. Pretty simple, Obama is against The Declaration of Independence and our sacred American Values.

How about Hillary's spiritual advisor the Rev. Graham. I posted this earlier

"But wait a sec. Putting aside the matter of whether what Wright said was even "hateful," this same Hillary Clinton chose the rabidly anti-semitic Rev. Billy Graham for spiritual mentor in her time of troubles during wayward hubby Bill's impeachment scandal, and welcomed his offer of support for her senate and presidential bids. This, of course, is the same Billy Graham who was caught on tape telling President Nixon that he thought Jews had a "stranglehold" on the American media, and that if something weren't "done about it," the "country's going down the drain."

35. you'd be a little nuts, too...if you had:
tried to hold the floodwaters back at the dike in N.O., evacuated thousands of people after the Twin Towers strikes, put out flames at the Pentagon that same day, rebuilt thousands of homes after numerous tornadoes, singlehandedly propped up a stumbling economy, provided thousands of jobs for Americans, brought about the highest levels of global peace known since before Jesus' time...

wait.....

Hillary didn't really do all that, did she?

67. Get a grip - he's talking about Romans two thousand years ago - I've heard
many a sermon demonize the Romans (Italians) for what they did to the Jews and Jesus two thousands years ago. This is old new to say the least.
