Listening to "On Point" w/Tom Ashbrook on NPR this morning...
...and Chuck Hagel was the guest. A caller mentioned an Obama/Hagel ticket. Any thoughts?

1. Chuck Hagel is the only decent person in Congress with an "R" next to his name...
...he's a good man.

He's in the wrong party... but he's a good man.

2. He's certainly disenchanted with Bushco -- and I'm guessing he's
THIS CLOSE to breaking with the R's. He's not running for re-election, so who knows?

But more importantly -- what did Hagel say?

4. he has a great deal of respect for Sen. Obama...
..and truly enjoys working with him. He didn't say yes or no. It did sound as though he holds Obama in a very high regard however. I was impressed with the interview

5. I think more and more of them are leaning toward Obama.
With how the Hillary campaign is slashing and burning, his comportment by contrast is impressive.

It's going to be interesting to see who Obama chooses. It's a very important choice - more than ever, I think.

8. So far I think the SFRC members are neutral or endorsed Obama
(maybe a few for McCain but haven't paid attention to that side)

off to zzzzs myself but I'll listen tomorrow.

Edit to add:
"Chuck Hagel, the outspoken Republican senator from Nebraska, is a decorated Vietnam veteran and a leading GOP critic of the Iraq war.

Not so long ago, he was also viewed as an '08 presidential contender. But he's set aside whatever White House ambitions he may have had, and he's even announced that he won't be running again for the Senate.

That doesn't mean he'll go quietly. He's out with a new book, and some hard-hitting observations on America's direction."

7. I know how to find that program because...
my sister knows I am an NPR junkie (I have no TV so it's radio and internet for me). She was asking me about this program she heard on public radio that she wanted to send to one of her clients. Finally I figured out it which program it was and I remembered it's one she gets in Boston that I can't get where I am!
