NEW YORK (AP) - New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg plans to appear today at an event with Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama in Manhattan.

Bloomberg will introduce the Illinois senator at a speech on the economy at the Cooper Union college.

The billionaire mayor had considered his own independent presidential campaign but said a month ago that he had decided not to run. He said his focus would be on getting the candidates to embrace a bipartisan approach.

He says his endorsement is up for grabs in the presidential race.

Would this be considered an endorsement of his economic plan?

More from The Page:

Thursday Gotham City highlights include being introduced by Michael Bloomberg at morning economic address (that’s where/why tongues will wag)…. records “The View” for Friday airing…. and does a bucket-load of media interviews, including with some network bigs.

He also raises money.

1. I'm going with a yes on that...
Maybe not a full political endorsement, but certainly an endorsement of his economic plan. Otherwise he wouldn't be there at all.

5. Maybe Blooms has not seen the news about the latest
on wright and his anti Jew and anti israel statements.....obama in my honest opinion is a bigot, and the more that comes out about his true association with pastor wright I could see where he would be a racist as well....

6. He introduces him but does not endorse?!?!
What the hell does that mean? He is playing polite host since the event takes place in NYC? Bloomberg is playing coy again.

15. Bloomberg for VP?
OK, he is Repub in name only, the guy's a liberal Dem. He is a finanical whiz with knowhow about the economy, the voters' main conern now. And, he is a bottomless money-pit. AND... I think McCain is going to pick LIE-berman for a runningmate; Bloomberg would be a perfect foil for that, and would appeal to Independents, peeling them away from McCain.

What do you think?
