The "Swiftboat Phrase" that the right has for Obama
"How could he sit in the pews for twenty years ...."

It will be 2008's "Al Gore claimed to invent the internet."
or "Dan Rather was using forged documents" or "John Kerry
really wasn't a war hero" and so on.

Questions

1) How can it be defused?

b) How can we turn it against the user?

iii) What is the best reaction to it?

This year we take the fight to "them."

1. We diffuse it by using the same method: McCain has been
known to have attended extreme Far right events....we need footage of him attending one of these events and playing it over and over...

We can play this game....we just have to be willing to do it.

2. I don't think that's an effective line. Conservatives start to get a bit nervous ...
... when churches and pastors are examined too closely.

7. Because he was respectful in spite of his disagreement
with his pastor.

People in this country have a freaking right to say what they want. People in this country have a right to incorporate what is good about someone and disregard the unusable. I did it with my parents.

9. AAAAAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhh
a bear!:scared:

Whew. better now.

Here's what I think might help:

1) a documentary of Rev. Wright. From what I've seen, he's been a remarkable force for good for a long time.

2) sound bites of good tidbits from his sermons on youtube.

3) continued dissemination of the "angry" soundbites with the context attached this time.

4) "angry" sound bites from other pastors, showing that anything taken out of context might sound scary.

5) lather. rinse. repeat.

13. Quotes from Hagee and Parsley. Maybe some of their hate speech should
be showcased with the fact that McCain sought them out, not the other way around.

show clips of them pitting American against American just for their own profit and power.

14. We simply use the statements from RW-ingers that have already been forwarded defending Rev.Wright
The Religious Right respects the fact that he stood by his pastor instead of "throwing him under the bus"

If they want to try and make their last stand over attacking a religious leader while we address the economy, health care, energy policy and the Iraq war (among other things) they will be seen for what they are, desperate.

16. "I hate the gooks"..
I'm just saying.. every candidate has their cryptonite. We just need to make sure the Media plays both sides this time. Thankfully this election we have Youtube on our side to help a bit more when the Media wants to stay with one thing.. but the public is ready to move on to the next.

Clinton's "I was under fire" can be hers.. (or pick one of many).

I'm just saying - we counter our issue..by throwing out the oppositions.

26. I stole that link off another thread here..

Are you saying that we need to win over people who won't vote for a black person? I think we just need to suck that one up and deal with the non-bigot vote.

23. I agree If I was Obama I would tell the media rats I'm not talking
about it anymore, what's done is done. The people that are still upset are people that wouldn't have voted for him anyway.

21. Just for the Record
a few minutes of incendiary speech gleaned from twenty years of available video

does NOT represent the man's career or what Sen. Obama heard ALL THE TIME

Your question implies that you believe that crap... I don't know if you do but I would say...

"The world could be a Utopia, no war, no hunger, no disease. "Preposterous" you say? "How can you know this to be true?" and I answer, "because it can all begin in ME."

Lao Tzu

Step one... quit believing it. Step two... learn the truth. Step three... tell the truth.
