Rep. Murtha Endorses Clinton
Edited on Fri Mar-28-08 09:38 AM by OzarkDem
Just a reminder that this endorsement carries great weight in Pennsylvania, coming from a strong opponent of the War in Iraq and tireless advocate for health care reform.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/03/19/murtha.clinton/

"In 10 months, President Bush will leave office," said Murtha, D-Pennsylvania, in a written statement. "Our country is worse off today than when he took office over seven years ago."

He said he has known Clinton, D-New York, for 15 years and that "she continually reaches out for opinions and ideas, not just from our nation's leaders, but from all Americans."

"This week, she highlighted the policy failures in Iraq and addressed the real challenges we face in regards to rebuilding our military, restoring our readiness and fully preparing our armed forces to meet and deter future threats," Murtha said. "I know that Senator Clinton has a similar position that I have in regards to the war in Iraq. Her experience and careful consideration of these issues convinced me that she is best qualified to lead our nation and to bring credibility back to the White House."

Remember when Murtha was the hero of DU, for standing up to Bush on the Iraq War. How quickly Obama supporters have abandoned their opposition to the war and those who spoke out against it.

8. And was quickly buried
lets review it, shall we?

Its actually a substantive endorsement about two politicians who have actual records of action and accomplishment on key issues. It stands head and shoulders above endorsements for a candidate who has no record of any kind to stand on and who expects smart Dem voters to take him on faith.

No thanks. Give me the real candidate backed by real legislators who do real things.

13. Sorry, I have NEVER been a Murtha fan
he's one of the most corrupt pols in D.C.

And Pat Leahy stands head and shoulders above the corrupt Murtha.

17. I lost respect for him during the leadership fight after the 2006 elections
He should not have asked Pelosi to put her credibility on the line to push for him when he was so far down in votes. If it were close it would have been appropriate for him to ask her to push a few undecideds, but it wasn't close. And his grab for the whip post with the argument that his opposition to the war helped the Democrats take back the House made me wonder if his declaration of opposition was as principled as I had initially thought.

20. You must be off your meds.
Real legislators who do real things? You mean like Ted Kennedy? Or John Kerry?

Murtha is a corrupt pork-barreler who's voted against ethics reform, was an 'unindicted co-consipirator' in a bribery scandal (caught on video saying he wasn't interested in a $50K bribe 'now, but maybe later'), and whose stand on Iraq is possibly the only actually principled thing he's done in Congress.

...your point?

And, yeah, I would expect Murtha, a RW war hawk Dem, to endorse someone similar to himself because this subject is very important to him. Besides, he is has over and over, again and again been listed as one of the most corrupt memebers of the House.

Hey, birds of a feather....

C'mon, Ozark. Really?

So, I admire Murtha. I admire John Kerry. I admire Joe Wilson. I admire Bill Richardson. I admire George McGovern.

Is it possible for you to hold opposing thoughts in your head, at the same time, and come to a decision that doesn't involve irrational lock-step?

34. According to this article, Obama didn't stand up with Murtha to end the war.
"After Pennsylvania Congressman John Murtha called for withdrawal from Iraq last fall, Obama rejected such a move in a speech before the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations, saying the United States needed 'to manage our exit in a responsible way—with the hope of leaving a stable foundation for the future.'"
