No more Yes we can, No more pep talks, at least that is how it looks on TV. Do you think people are finally coming down to earth?

2. No, it's because the media has changed it's narrative.
And why would you care? Hillary said those were bad things anyways.

They've moved into GE mode.
That plus his rallies were accused of being too enthusiastic.

5. He did this on purpose
Let the energy simmer down a bit then let it gradually build as he gets closer to the primary. I remember hearing reports from people in Iowa who were disappointed hearing him in September because he wasn't as exciting as he was at the convention in 04...then, getting closer to the caucus, the energy built and he won the caucus. He is approaching PA in a manner similar to his Iowa approach.

33. Just got back from a town hall meeting in Greensburg, PA
He was terrific. The crowd was very enthusiastic. He gave a great speech and then took questions from the audience. I was originally an Edwards supporter, but have decided I will vote for Obama on April 22.

9. I think that was a deliberate decision on the part of the campaign
To do more townhalls and fewer big rallies, in order to show that he knows his stuff and isn't just an empty suit by having him take questions from voters. I read somewhere that they are trying to do at least 1 townhall or interactive event a day. I don't think he is having trouble drawing big crowds...they've just been limiting the attendance at events. That might be partly security-related too.

17. To your point from today's NYT (last two paragraphs)
For now, Mr. Obama is trading in his signature big rallies, which drew thousands of passionate fans in the earlier states, for smaller venues and quieter audiences; his first foray into Pennsylvania was a low-key discussion at a factory in Bucks County.

“This is like a symphony,” said Clifford Levine, a Pittsburgh lawyer, fund-raiser and chairman of Mr. Obama’s western Pennsylvania steering committee. “You don’t start with a crescendo when you have five weeks. You start with a softer sell. We’ll build things up, and once there’s support and people get to know him, you start in with the big crescendo.”

23. Maybe Obama is trying to tone it down so that his rallies don't
resemble church frenzies with people speaking in tongues and writhing on the floor. He's trying to shake that notion that he's not in touch with reality where the rubber meets the road.

35. Oh, Cry baby, did you just alert my post.
Collect yourself pal, and stop this emotional trip you are on, before you get a nervous breakdown.

And if you have forgotten what you have said, let me remind you:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=5291026&mesg_id=5291026

Check you deleted messages, and people calling you a racist, and asking for you to get TS’d.

You are a racist, and you have shown your true colors.

Progressive?! Hell No. Progressives all over the world are tearing Obama a new one because he DISTANCED HIMSELF from Wright, when Wright is exactly what America needs to wake the FUCK UP.
I don’t think these forums are for you.

29. Back during Ohio and Texas campaigning
some journalist on Matthews was talking about how Obama has been saying he wanted to go to smaller venues so that he can take questions on all the campaign stops but there was some disagreement because so many people wouldn't be able to see him.
The panel all started laughing about what a unique problem it was for a politician to have "My crowds are too big, I want smaller crowds"

I've watched many of his recent rallies and town hall meetings. He doesn't do those like he does the big speeches after primaries and I haven't seen him start the "Yes we can" at all. but I also haven't seen one where the crowd didn't start it themselves at some point. He pauses for a moment to let them, acknowledges it and then carries on.

The venues are smaller but they have spill over rooms and there is a large crowd outside...but there was at larger venues to. He stops and talks to them before he goes in.

The question and answer period is the great part. I wish that was what they televised for both candidates. Clinton seems much warmer and more natural in that situation than in a big speech and Obama gets to show what a wonk he actually is. What some think of as their weak points do not look weak in those settings and it's so much more natural than debates.

Obama will do one of those college Q&A's on Hardball Wednesday. I hope Clinton will have one too, I'm sure she'll agree. Actually I'd like to see McCain do one and see if he can really answer questions. Our Dem candidates are really smart and quick.
