There's something fucked up about that. Not just saying it once in the heat of the moment, either, but actually using the bully pulpit of the Washington Post OpEd page to say it again. And this is the same cool-headed politico who also called Howard Dean "Rumsfeld" after the 50 state strategy won back the Senate and House for Dems in the 2006 election.

I wish I could think of something to call Carville besides asshole.

3. Good point. Carville is a fraud. A well paid one.
If he were sincere in his political beliefs, how the hell could he remain married to a principal Dick Cheney hanger on? I have heard of couples disagreeing, but this is ridiculous. It's all a sham, a farce, just like Coulter playing to the rubes and raking in the cash. Most of these pundits are frauds - wrong on everything, but appearing on one another's shows regularly and making the big bucks.

If Carville isn't provocative, he doesn't make the money. He's finished, because he has nothing of substance to add to the national conversation. So he plays carnival barker, clown and provocateur, and it works for him.

They are simple political whores. Their profession is to get paid to say shit that their masters don't really coming out of their own mouths. It makes perfect sense for them to be married because they can each promote the other's value by escalating the mud-slinging.

12. On Larry King the other night (now, come on, don't laugh)...
They had Carville and another Clinton supporter on and two others on for Obama and the one guy mentioned how the Clinton's and the Clinton campaign have no room to be offended at Richardson when all the people they have thrown under the bus are counted.

How right he was. Then Carville tries to emphasize that the Judas comment was coming from James Carville and not the Clinton campaign.

Yeah, right, James. And by the way, John Kerry says hello to the Bushies through you and your wife.

15. State of Denial
"Matalin is married to James Carville, a Democrat who had been chief political strategist for Bill Clinton in 1992. He was not directly involved in the Kerry campaign but was still very plugged in. She called him.

" 'Look, I know this is hard for you,' she told him sympathetically.

"Carville told her he had some inside news. The Kerry campaign was going to challenge the provisional ballots in Ohio -- perhaps up to 250,000 of them. 'I don't agree with it,' Carville said, 'I'm just telling you that's what they're talking about.'

"Matalin went to Cheney to report."

--Bob Woodward; page 344

James Carville hosted a fund-raiser for I. Lewis Libby.

18. Ok, here's a conspiracy theory about Carville's "Judas" comment....
He was indeed trying to "brand" Richardson, but not because he wanted to stem the tide of superdelegates towards Obama. Instead, he hoped to tarnish Richardson sufficiently to prevent Obama, as the nominee, from selecting Richardson as a VP & therefore creating a winning ticket in November.

Thoughts? One caveat: I am not suggesting that the Clinton campaign is behind this. I'm still holding out hope that they are not quite so Machiavellian.

25. I doubt that Carville is that smart
That one seems way too complicated for James Carville's brain. Moreover, there could be lots of dynamite tickets for Obama. Richardson would be a good one, but certainly not he only one. And really, having the Clinton try to destroy Richardson only seems to increase his credibility.

28. Really? I don't know... Carville is swarmy but
I think he is damned smart. The "It's the Economy Stupid" in 1992 was a brilliant strategy. And something about his comments recently leads me to think that he is playing a deep game here (and not necessarily with the Clinton's go-ahead) Perhaps it is a quid pro quo with his she-wolf wife. Give her McCain in 2008 and he can resurrect Clinton in 2012.

33. He consistently gets himself out-maneuvered
when he is in debates on those shouting match shows. He isn't very quick on his feet. When he gets beat on the points he retreats to the "aw shucks, I'm just a simple down home guy." position.

Because he's not overly clever, he is probably a good one to have around if you are trying to keep it simple.

21. I think you're wrong. I have come to believe it is a loving marriage
I'm a romantic. True love is blind to politics. They may be odd bedfellows, but I accept their devotion and love for each other at face value. In the more than 10 years of their marriage they have shown no reason to think otherwise. His wife is certainly not his enemy. She is the essence and center of his being.

23. Yes, a lot of spouses disagree on politics.
And for that matter, such disagreements have broken up a lot of marriages too. That's one reason why I'm glad that I'm still single. LOL.

22. I've been bugging John Nichols to go after Carville for what was exposed in Woodward's book...
...State of Denial, pages 343-356 where Carville got wind of Kerry's Ohio strategy to protest the vote and whispered in his Better Skank's ear, who just so happened to be the Chirpy Parrot for Darth Cheney, who just happened to be VP for Chimpy, who just so happened to call the Ohio GOP team, who just so happened to steal the election.

Carville is a traitor. He may be escaping to the Big Easy but that's where it will be his undoing.

He's either disingenuous or the victim of early onset dementia. I'm leaning towards the second explanation.

There's just something wrong with James Carville.
