Barack Obama: Hillary "Can Run As Long As She Wants."
March 29, 2008
Categories: Barack Obama

'As long as she wants'

Talking to reporters in Johnstown, Pa., Saturday, Barack Obama said Hillary Clinton “can run as long as she wants.”

“She should be able to compete, and her supporters should be able to support her as long as they are willing or able,” Obama said.

His comments contradicted those Friday by Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) that appeared intended to nudge Clinton out of the race.

Obama said the notion that the party is divided is “somewhat overstated.” But he said Democrats must pivot quickly to the general election after the primary contests end in June.

31. Sorry, i do not spend every waking moment on DU. here you go....
March 19th 2008

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0803/19/acd.01.html

COOPER: How do you see this playing out? I mean, how long do you expect to be doing this?

OBAMA: You mean the campaign?

COOPER: Yes.

OBAMA: We know that the last contest that is scheduled is in early June.

And I thought that, actually, Governor Bredesen of Tennessee had an interesting proposal, which is, as soon as we finish with the last primary, the superdelegates should schedule to get together, whatever remaining ones are uncommitted, and go ahead and make a decision. Now, that would probably be the best way to ensure that there's at least a couple of months before the convention.

COOPER: So, you don't see any knockout punch, in terms of popular vote in a primary?

OBAMA: You know, I don't anticipate it at this point. Senator Clinton has been very tenacious.

We feel very confident that we're going to have won more states, we will have a higher portion of the popular vote. And I think we're going to have more pledged delegates. But there's nothing in the rules that says she can't continue on as long as she wants to.

If you want more, I am sure i can find it... I have heard him say similar things the past couple of weeks.

3. Classy. I'm glad he distanced himself from Leahy's comments
Although from the way the MSM are portraying it, you'd think Leahy was speaking for the Obama campaign.

5. What about the cabal from last week, Reid, Richardson , Pelosi,
and the other goofballs planning a shutdown. Most of his surrogates have been calling for her withdrawal for weeks.

As I said late to the party.

16. You are the one who is late, Obama has said this a hundred times...
It is common knowledge. He says it constantly.

Why don't you try to live up to your own standards.. Link Or Lie.. FInd Obama saying she should drop out. You can't

I doubt very much that Pelosi, Richardson or Reid would parrot of anyone. Much less all of them

not have had to ask him about it. If he had been "common knowledge" it would have saved Poor Leahy :nopity: the trouble of being humiliated today.

Well, those guys are all gluttons . . . . .

. . . .for punishment, I mean. What did you think I meant?

4. I feel exactly the same way. That is why I am supporting Obama for the nomination
he realizes that the Clinton supporters in the states that haven't voted yet, should have their vote counted

After the primaries however, if it is undecided, whoever is ahead, the losing candidate should step down, and NOT take it to the convention

That WOULD BE A DISASTER

9. If she wasn't so damned kitchen sinky maybe it wouldn't be so bad.
But she has turned herself into a suicide bomber, ready to take us all with her.

THAT is the problem.

8. I just can't get into the idea of an Obama nomination
I just feel that there's no point in doing anything if Obama gets the nomination. I hope his supporters have it in them to go all the way because I doubt I can be of much help since I dislike him so much. If he gains the presidency, I'll do 'toons about him, though. :)

Look, I just won't be into politics as much any more. Perhaps the same would happen with Hillary, who knows? I need a rest anyway. Let the massive tide of youngsters rise up and take responsibility for keeping the wave of progress going. I'll applaud or jeer from the sidelines while they run the game for a few quarters. I'll jump back in once we've snatched defeat from the jaws of victory once more.

I just wish we Democratics would, just this once, learn not to bring a knife to a gunfight.

24. ... but.. but... I like her better!
I'm mostly kidding. I do like her, better than Barack. But I already voted, and my vote has already been counted. And of course when it comes to the GE I will support Obama if he gets the nomination, phone bank for him as I have for Hillary, vote, and drag everyone I can to the polls. Even if I like Hillary's policies better than Barack's, they beat McCain hands down.

13. Brilliant political move on Obama's part.
He gets credit for being classy and inclusive, while his comment actually makes it clear that he's in a superior position to Hillary. Obama's statement implies that he's in a position to comment on whether or not she should stay in the race - that is not good for Hillary, because it undermines her argument that she should be the frontrunner.

I have to hand it to Obama - he is a very savvy politician. This bodes well. He'll need to be savvy to defeat the Republican machine and be an effective president. I think he can do it.

Go Obama!

He is savvy, but in this case it was also the natural result of a Q&A situation.

20. OBAMA KNOWS ITS OVER FOR HER........
AND HE KNOWS SHE'S HANGING AROUND UNTIL THE INDIANA AND NORTH CAROLINA CONTESTS REGARDLESS.EVEN IF CLINTON WINS PENNSYLVANIA BY 300,000 SHE IS LIKELY TO LOSE MOST IF NOT ALL OF HER GAIN IN NORTH CAROLINA.INDIANA SHOULD BE CLOSE BUT NEITHER CANDIDATE IS LIKELY TO NET A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF VOTES.IF THE VOTE TOTALS FROM MICHIGAN AND FLORIDA ARE FACTORED IN OBAMA WOULD STILL BE LEADING IN THE TOTAL POPULAR VOTE BY ABOUT 200,000.OBAMAS PLEDGED DELEGATE LEAD IS OBVIOUSLY OUT OF REACH BUT EVERYONE ALREADY KNOWS THAT,I HOPE.I WOULD THINK AFTER THE INDIANA AND N.C. PRIMARIES CLINTON AND HER SUPPORTERS WILL BE FORCED TO SOBER UP AND FACE REALITY,BUT SHE DOES HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO STAY IN THE RACE.
