seemingly oblivious to all else but just in case you stop long enough to look past GD-P...

Administration pushes regulatory changes

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080329/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/fed_overhaul

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration is trying to confront the credit crisis that has rattled nerves from Wall Street to Main Street by proposing wholesale changes in how Washington oversees the financial system.

A plan set for release Monday would give new powers to the Federal Reserve so that the central bank serves as the system's overarching protector of stability.

The proposal would abolish agencies such as the Office of Thrift Supervision and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, shifting their responsibilities to other federal institutions.

When Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson outlines the ideas in a speech, the changes will represent the most sweeping overhaul of financial regulation since the Great Depression of the 1930s...

How hard is it to move to Europe? Bush is a never ending nightmare.

1. Another rush job that will be a disaster
I used to work in Financial Services. I spent five years in the industry before I said fuck it and moved into Medicaid. Took a pay cut but I'm part of a company that is helping the community.

Anyway the SEC was created 4 years after the crash and it was carefully thought out before they implemented it.
It was a great legislative achievement of Roosevelt. This son of a bitch has been trying to undo the New Deal since he fucking took office. I don't know what he's proposing but I'm guessing its going to be more undoing of the New Deal legislation that will probably result in these companies having less regulation not more or making bailing them out when they create hedge funds that invest in risky investments easier. This is a disaster and he's going to use the election to bully in more shitty legislation.

I can't wait till 1/21/2009

2. Apparently they've also decided to make the Katrina victims
that they (the gov) gave grants to, give money back because they made a mistake and gave them too much. No one can run a budget with money that is alternatively given and then taken back especially if it's given with the expectation that you spend it all rather than put it in your pocket. That just doesn't work.
