Obama/Clarke
Edited on Sat Mar-29-08 11:40 PM by Milo_Bloom
I see so many things about Obama/Richardson, Obama/Edwards, Obama/Fiengold, Obama/Boxer and other things... but most of them seem to be fundamentally flawed as either both Senators, or both inexperienced... there is one ticket that I would just love to see.

Obama and Richard Clarke... the man, who if listened to, would have prevented 9/11... someone, whose foreign policy credentials and ability to "protect us" without trampling on people's rights is without question.

He is generally seen as non-partisan, having served under both Democrats AND Republicans (in fact more of them), but seems to rise above it and just get to the issue.

An Obama/Clarke ticket could be just the thing to destroy a McCain/Lieberman ticket (if that is where it is going).

It would be so refreshing to see two pragmatists in the White House after all these years!

What say ye? Have I licked too much Toad?

6. I think he wrote a novel and memoirs
I did a quick Google search on him and found him still attacking the bush administration at every turn.

http://weblog.infoworld.com/zeroday/archives/2008/03/cyber_warfare_b.html

I love this quote, ""Given this government's performance with abuse of the Patriot Act, and surveillance without warrants, we have to ask questions, because we clearly cannot assume that the government isn't breaking the law and ignoring privacy," Clarke said.

I really get the sense from him that he is someone who really believes in the principles upon which this country was founded and holds them above all else.

Another example was this quote, in discussing his distaste for the concept that FISA wasn't sufficient and they needed new wiretaping laws. In a commentary which was printed by the Philadelphia Inquirer on February 1, 2008, Richard Clarke, former head of counterterrorism at the National Security Council, wrote "Though 9/11 changed the prism through which we view surveillance and intelligence, it did not in any way change the effectiveness of FISA to allow us to track and monitor our enemies. FISA has (sic) and still works as the most valuable mechanism for monitoring our enemies."

He just gets it!

12. I think it was called Scorpions Gate.
I heard him promoting it a couple of years ago on Coast to Coast and I loved listening to him talk about national security and at the time I was thinking, damn... I wish he would just run for President.

19. I know who Arthur C. Clark is. LOL But Richard Clarke has written a few fiction novels
after leaving government work. I checked and they are sort of a quasi-government thriller/sci-fi thing. See: "Breakpoint" and "Scorpion's Gate"

Look them up at Amazon. :)

5. NO! Wes Clark said some horrible things about Obama, besides
Retired Marine General Anthony Zinni has Clark beat in a lot of areas, including Middle East diplomacy, something that a President Obama will need to deal with after 8 years of Bush being AWOL.

16. Richardson didn't preform well in debates
And I don't see the hardcore national security credentials that would be needed to combat a McCain/Lieberman ticket... they need someone with very strong foreign policy credentials and being an ambassador won't really be considered as strong in the eyes of the public.

11. Oh I thought you were talking about WESLEY Clark. Richard Clarke is awesome.
It might help them play into the whole "judgment" thing.
