The Dem Primary to McCain is what the Feds are to Bear-Stearn; A Financial Bail Out.

As we all know, the McCain campaign is the least financially sound of the three remainding campaigns. In addition, there is a question still out as to whether McCain is breaking public financing laws by continuing to spend beyond his alloted amount. Further, it is speculated that IF Obama is our Nominee, than McCain would face a tough go on the money front since it is clear that he will accept General Election public financing, especially if Obama opts out. Once we get into August, there will be no money advantage left, as there will be too few months left to campaign for anything more than the 95 million each candidate will get to fight till November.

However, none of these issues, that financially dog McCain at the momen will be of a great disadvantageif the Dem primaries drag on through the convention.

Facts:
As long as the Dem Primary goes on, McCain doesn't have to expand money to fight the Democratic nominee, as the Dems are doing it for him.

As long as the Dem Primary goes on, McCain doesn't have to concern himself with the gap between the time since he was chosen, and the GOP conventions (he doesn't get any more financing till then).

As long as the Dem Primary goes on, McCain will continue to receive good press, because the Dem nominee is not going to advertise and expand so much money to go after McCain, because they are busy defending themselves from each other.

So, not only are we not allowed to concentrate on Defining McCain in full force, we are unable to use our "should be" money advantage against McCain to set up for a win in the GE.

Certainly, campaigning in all 50 states is a good thing for the Dems, and so, this is a plus in extending the Dem primaries....as long as it doesn't drag on once all of the states have voted.

1. You are so right, imo
McCain is getting a free pass on everything, and free airtime in the news. He's getting what HE needs for free as the Dem primaries continue.

:hi:

2. Not the Dem Primary, its Hillary Clinton...and Bill.

If the Clinton's decided to hit McCain instead of praising him then we would be hitting John McCain from both sides and Dems would benefit. But instead they want to aim their fire at Obama.

That is where they went wrong, and why they need to be reviled.

4. The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Coming out of the Democratic Convention, Obama's going to get a huge bounce (call me silly, but I have a feeling he might give, I don't know, a pretty good speech), go on a big, sweeping tour with his Veep Nominee, and that will be the beginning of the end of the McCain hopes. The GOP Convention follows immediately after we wrap up ours, but, honestly, it's going to be pretty pathetic in comparison.

McCain's fall in popularity is going to be dramatic.

5. Do you think McCain will commit to public financing if Obama doesn't?
I can't see it. It would put him at a severe disadvantage. He's not as good a fundraiser as Obama, but public financing puts him at an $85 million dollar limit while Obama could potentially raise much more through public financing.
