16. It's the 'Alabama in the middle' part
Sure, State College has a huge youth population, but it's also the exact center of the state.
Looking good for Obama! This bus tour was a great idea.

99. He may not win "Alabama", but the statewide race will be close
For those not from our fair commonwealth, Globalvillage is referring to the oft cited observation that Pennsylvania consists of Pittsburgh on one end, Philly on the other, with "Alabama in the middle".

State College has a reactionary streak that runs as long and wide as Mount Nittney. The fact that Obama can pull off crowds like this in Happy Valley speaks to the direction this race is going.

Smart money would take the Obama and the points (if you're giving me a 5 point spread).

I'm lucky I guess: got to see Obama at a town hall meeting with about 1,000 present and we only had to wait in line (out in the cold) for 45 min. Then over an hour once we were in our seats. Got to sit about 25 feet away. :)

Edited on Sun Mar-30-08 04:33 PM by 1776Forever

All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Berlin, and, therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words "Ich bin ein Berliner."

President John F. Kennedy - June 26, 1963

I believe Barack Obama will be this type of President. We must keep vigilant. This man is worth our vote!

Thank you Barack for giving up $100's of thousands of dollars to be the President of the United States.

122. Never put the end of Kennedy before the changes he championed.
Edited on Mon Mar-31-08 08:23 PM by 1776Forever
If you never try to go forward and challenge what has come before you will never make any change! It takes a man like Kennedy, who knew that he was going to have to fight the good fight, to put himself in the position he did with the vision that he had to give us so much that we enjoy now.

Among them:

He negotiated the Russians to remove their missles that were pointed at the US out of Cuba.

The Space Program allowed the United States to be on the moon by 1970's.

Civil rights, as well as business and labor unions, became the major domestic issues for Kennedy.

He desegregated the Alabama school system.

Kennedy used the National Guard to ensure the safety of the students and proposed a Civil Rights Bill to Congress a week after he made the following televised address on June 11, 1963 and the Civil Rights Act won congressional approval in 1964 as a memorial to Kennedy.

..........

All this in 3 short years! Life is short - what we do within the time we are on the earth is the important thing.

Even Gene McCarthy and Bobby Kennedy did not draw these kinds of crowds.

I honestly can't think of another candidate who generated this kind of support from young Americans. It's extraordinary. The Millenials are out in force for this candidate.

So is this Boomer.

Largest I had heard of before was 20,000. I wonder how they manage to count a crowd that large.

My brother has some friends from high school who go to Penn State...I wonder if they were there. I just hope all these students registered to vote in PA...I know the Obama campaign had a push in the eastern part of the state to get students registered...I think they did the same at Penn State. Unfortunately, a lot of schools were on spring break between March 4 and the registration deadline.

Obama draws thousands to rally on Penn State lawn, says he will win Democratic nomination

The Associated Press Published: March 30, 2008

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.: Shivering in blankets of Penn State's colors, some 20,000 people filled a campus lawn Sunday to hear Barack Obama say he can win the Democratic nomination even if rival Hillary Rodham Clinton stays in the race.

<snip>

On a sunny day with temperatures in the low 40's, most bundled up for the type of large-scale rally that has become the candidate's trademark.

"It's been a while, and it's a little cold, but we really like Barack. He's inspiring," said 19-year-old Caitlin McDonnell, wrapped in a blue Nittany Lions blanket.

<snip>

The Illinois senator told the crowd not to worry.

"As this primary has gone on a little bit long, there have been people who've been voicing some frustration," Obama said. "I want everybody to understand that this has been a great contest, great for America. It's engaged and involved people like never before. I think it's terrific that Senator Clinton's supporters have been as passionate as my supporters have been because that makes the people invested and engaged in this process, and I am absolutely confident that when this primary season is over Democrats will be united."

61. CNN streamed this rally on the web..
they went out of their way to show the crowd as smaller than it obviously was. There was no panning of the crowd whatsoever. Wow! Thank you for posting what we weren't allowed to see by the MSM.

We are so close to the nomination, I don't want anything to stop it.

Go Obama!

79. Went to a night rally in TX
They screened everyone (metal detectors) that got inside their perimeter. Once that area was filled with the number they had predetermined, the remainder of us were allowed to spread out around the edges. Could still see and the sound system was great, so didn't miss anything except a chance to get close enough to shake his hand or get a good close up photo (hard to keep still enough w/o a tripod to take a night photo).

And picture Hillary trying to take away Howard Dean back in 2004.

This crowd would be nothing though compared to the crowd if Hillary were to take it away from the will of the people.

I know it would be my last straw.

After a decade of young people NOT getting involved in our country's governmental behavior, it's nice to see some awakening.

I can assure you those young people didn't think they were going to see a messiah. They think they are going to see a potential replacement for and antidote to George W. Bush.
