The Florida Primary; A Different (and never reported on) Viewpoint
A never-reported fact about the Florida vote explains why Hillary did so well here compared to Obama & Edwards. For weeks prior to the primary, the media went on & on telling us the democratic primary vote wouldn't count. For most of us democrats that left only one issue on the ballot -- an important constitutional amendment that affected ONLY homeowners. That meant non-homeowners had absolutely no reason to vote. So who are non-homeowners? Young people & poor people -- Obama's & Edwards' base. obviously, to count that vote under those circumstances would be criminal. At the same time, to try to put together a hastily-executed primary in a state like mine that can't manage even normal elections would be a tragicomedy. No matter who won a re-do, the other side would be rightly skeptical of the results. After Hillary said the vote should count, our republican governor, who insisted on the early primary, then went on any TV show that would have him to say he favored a re-do. I hate to be a cynic, but I just don't think a republican governor who is on the veeps shortlist has the best interests of the democratic party at heart.

2. it was a total waste of time really panader
the ONLY reasons we even went to vote was so just in case they decided to disenfranchise us again like they did in 2000-when they took my name off the rolls-we KNEW that vote meant NOTHING, and frankly didn't really care either way. What WAS and has always been important was getting the paper trail. If that meant we had to sacrifice some a-holes from a free trip to Denver this summer then so be it-=the ONLY people who care are the desperate Clintonistas and we ALL know she could care less about us anyway. Where the fuck were THEY in 2000?

4. Good point & one I had not heard of. A Hill supporter brought up the huge turn out & someone else
pointed out the turnout was due to the tax issue so the historical analogy the Hill supporter was trying to make was not valid.

5. Actually that tax amendment does impact non-homeowners because the
property tax rate has an effect on the rent charged. There was a provision in that amendment that pertained to rental properties. It was important for non-homeowners to have their say on this because of how it would effect rents but also because if they have any plans to ever purchase a home in Florida it will effect them at some point down the road.

Q. I own rental property. How would Amendment 1 affect me?

You would get the 10 percent cap on future assessment increases, except for school taxes. Savings under the cap would not be portable. New additions to property would be assessed at just value. The nonhomestead cap would expire in 2019 unless voters again authorize it.

6. Florida has one of the most riggable vote counting systems in the country.
No re-do that did not take place with paper ballots, hand-counted IN PUBLIC, would be trustworthy.
