...before they dropped out.
I supported Senator John Edwards originally.
I remember after Iowa when everyone called for him to drop out, and the response from Senator Edwards was that he was in this till the convention. As a supporter, I didn't want to accept he had no real chance of pulling off the nomination. I thought he was the best candidate, and he spoke for me and my values. I became blind to the facts, and the only thing important to me was that John said he was going to fight--so by god, I wanted to fight with him.
So while I understand the reasoning why some people defend and stand with Hillary with such passion, and intensity. They believe in her, and she speaks for them. And they want to continue fighting for her, even if all is lost and their is no hope for victory.
I've called for her to step down. Maybe that was overzealous and hypocritical of me. I'm not afraid to admit that. But I hope when Senator Obama wins the nomination, they come to our campaign and stand with us--just as I did after realizing Senator Edwards and Senator Clinton didn't have a chance (I supported both at one point--Edwards dropped out, and I realized Hillary didn't have the ability to win) and joined the Obama campaign.
Senator Obama fills this nation with hope and promise for the future. He understands the problems we face, and I say 'we' on purpose. He understands that bottom-up democracy is the best policy, and we have to do this together as a people. We can't change this country by sitting on the sidelines.
So I hope all Clinton supporters continue to support their candidates, despite my feelings that she should drop out. I'm sorry I've been pushy with those emotions as of late. And I hope we are ALL on the same side in November, because John McCain is TOO dangerous.
And I hope when it comes crystal clear to her in the next months that she can't win, Hillary gracefully steps down and endorses Senator Obama. We could use her in this cause, she's a tough fighter and very much capable of helping the Democratic ticket in 2008. I respect the hell out of her, and think the world of the Clintons.
In closing, I don't think this will go to the convention. Hillary Clinton knows what that will mean, and how difficult that'll make it for the Democrats to win. This will be over by then. Until then, carry on everyone. And don't mind the talking points our candidates use (like saying you'll stay in the election till the convention) because they've probably been used before (IE Edwards)
Just go with your gut--and vote Democratic in November.
GOBAMA!
