DFA hires Laura Gross, NPR, as Communications Director.

She will be blogging tomorrow. I guess she will be leaving NPR for that. They are getting the staff on pretty steadily now. Tom Hughes, Tom McMahon, and a couple of others are from the Clinton/Gore campaigns. I think Hughes was a Gore advisor. Not sure. So was the original director, Roy Neel, but I think he just was there for the beginning.

3. Laura Gross blogs about her new position in Burlington at Dean's DFA.

Hello Blog for America! I am Laura Gross, the new communications director for DFA. I just arrived in Burlington and I am thrilled to be working with each of you at a grassroots level in order to get socially progressive, fiscally responsible democrats elected. The enthusiasm and passion from everyone involved with DFA is contagious and I am honored to be part of this energetic team.

As communications director, I will be responsible for the overall message and press coverage of DFA. I'll arrange media activities for Governor Dean while reaching out to the reporters in your town to boast about DFA's activities.

After spending the past four years in the public relations department at NPR, I am excited to be returning to politics. While working at NPR, I had the advantage of being inside a newsroom - working closely with reporters, editors and producers - and now I am glad to bring my insider's knowledge to DFA. Before NPR, I worked for the Clinton administration in the press office at the U.S. Agency for International Development. I was an advance person for the 1996 Clinton-Gore campaign and The White House.

I look forward to working with each of you at a grassroots level in order to send George W. Bush back to Texas and to get democrats all over the country elected.

- Laura Gross
