The "Unelectable" Barack Obama... A History Lesson
Edited on Mon Mar-31-08 08:56 PM by demdog78
Since Obama began his campaign we have heard all sorts of reason for which he is not electable, and to this day, none of them have been proven. In fact, as far as I can see, they have all pretty much been dis-proven. But here they are, as I can remember them.

1. He's not black enough. ("halfrican" american)
2. He's too black. (shuck & jive)
3. He only gets the black vote (except all those "white" states he won)
4. He is too intelligent and arrogant. (all those rally's... just words)
5. He's simple like Bush. (you could sit down and have a beer with him.)
6. He's not vetted. (pre-Clinton attack)
7. He's too vetted. (post-Clinton attack)
8. Rezko will hurt him. (ha ha ha until it had nothing to do with him)
9. He's not patriotic. (ha ha ha flag-pin gate & God D*mn It!)
10. He can't win the big states. (except the big ones he did win)
11. He only wins small states (and those people don't count)
12. He doesn't like LGBT (he wants to get rid of DOMA and DADT)
13. He wants to disenfranchise voters (see #11 % apply Hill's SD tactic)
14. He doesn't have the experience (unless you count his 12 years)
15. He's a liar (and Hillary is Mother Theresa... watch out for snipers)

Obviously, these are not in order, but that doesn't really matter since none of them ended up being true anyway.

My point is simply this... Don't worry your pretty little heads my fellow Obamaniacs! There is nothing to fear. Obama will win the nomination and we will see to it that he wins the presidency.

Nothing sticks to this guy... you know why? Simple; he's clean.

They can toss whatever they can make up at him, it's not going to stick. Not this time. Not this candidate. He and Hillary learned different lessons from watching Karl Rove and the repugnican machine.

Hillary learned how to play like them.

Obama learned how to beat them.

1. This doesn't make me want to support Obama
Can't do it based on this information. Too much going on in the country right now.

2. Well, at least it wasn't a Hillary bash-fest.
You can support whoever you want... free country and all.

But uh... if you think McCain will be better than Obama, as "your girl" Hillary likes to suggest, you might want to find yourself another website.

4. I keep looking at a lot of different "left" leaning sites
and I can find very little real information about Senator Obama. I know Senator Clinton and I know Senator McCain (not personally but their politics). What I don't know is very much about Senator Obama. It's not for lack of effort in trying to find out, it is a lack of substantive information on the man that could be the nominee of the Democratic Party for President.

9. been there and done that
one of the first places I went to. No, I come to the message boards to find additional information on a candidate and, on this board at least, there's not a lot. I'll keep looking though.

7. I find this difficult to believe...
After all, Google is your friend. You could go to his website, or, for fucks sake, listen to the slime jobs in the MSM....and their complete dismissal a week later.

Maybe ya gotta agenda. Maybe yer a 'capital hill-ary' duMP'r over for a little hot trolling action...Maybe a little creepin' freeper here to sow a little doubt n' discontent.....

Who knows??? You don't rate any FUD? (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt???) on the troll scale, but

Ya DO give me a little indigestion:

:hurts:

There: all sweet and clean!

Thanks!!

12. Thanks for your help
I use Google effectively, I've been to his website and I don't really care for getting my news and views told to me on MSM. I look to the messageboards to find additional information and read personal endorsements from what I assume are everyday people like me. Please be as helpful to others seeking similar information about Senator Obama, it does wonders for the cause.

15. Primary
Which has already been decided where I live. I need additional information if I'm to convince others to vote for him in the General Election. But I just seem to get a pervasive nastiness. It's kind of disheartening to be addressed in this manner but if that's the way supporters of Senator Obama want to portray themselves and him then that's what I'll go with. Guess my vote isn't needed in November.

17. I've been convinced by listening to what he has to say, how he says it, and how it resonates for me
Edited on Mon Mar-31-08 10:45 PM by Voice for Peace
plus what I know of his accomplishments, and how he is conducting his campaign,
how he has energized so many people, built a phenomenal grassroots organization,
etc.

I don't like being swayed back and forth by other people's bias, one way or
the other. I like to trust my own mind, heart and gut. He impresses me
enormously.

More than anything, it has been listening to the man himself. I like the way he
thinks, and I think he is brilliant. I don't think he is perfect but I think he is
brilliant and will be very good for this country in many ways.

I highly recommend all of these speeches if you haven't seen them yet.

21. Thank you sincerely
The man is a gifter orator, without a doubt, and he could possibly sway some votes from across the aisle with that gift. I like to trust my own mind, heart and gut also and to do that I have to satisfy myself that I have enough information. You have provided me with exactly what I was looking for which is your opinion backed up with information/exhibits I can use.

Thank you for that and THAT is how the good Senator will gain converts.

• This article is very good: http://www.alternet.org/audits/80623/
re Foreign Policy

• This woman also impresses me, regardless of her official resignation from his staff:
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=obama+samantha+power&search_type=

I think he has a circle of remarkably intelligent, honest and forward looking people working with him.
I think his administration will be the best in history, because of the caliber of people he chooses to work with, and the way he works with people.

• Something that impressed me early on:
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/104/story/31759.html

"The chairman of the (Illinois State) Senate Judiciary Committee decided to separate one controversial proposal from the broader package, one that would require videotaping interrogations in murder cases. Police and prosecutors opposed it so much that keeping it in the broader package threatened to sink the whole effort.

The state senator who later took on the task of pushing the proposal to videotape interrogations was Barack Obama.

Obama worked with Democrats, Republicans and especially with police and prosecutors to fashion a bill that all of them could support. By the time it reached the Senate floor, everyone was on board. It passed in a unanimous vote, and is now Illinois law.

How Obama did it reveals a lot about his political style, which is at the core of his appeal. It defines an approach to political problem solving that he vows can change how Washington does business."

• And there's this:
http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2008/03/05/the-new-issue-of-rolling-stone-barack-obama/

• and... on and on

6. Seeing as how Hillary is using Rovian tactics... and he is beating her...
I would say he knows how to beat them.

The only way Hillary beats Obama is if she had the Super Delegates start a civil war.

That's not going to happen.

Edited on Mon Mar-31-08 09:51 PM by Random Lee
When Obama or Hillary were said to be "unelectable", the term referred to the GE. "unelectable" is never used to refer to primaries.

With these said, the 15 points you cited are neither confirmed or debunked at this point.

27. Hillary Clinton .... She made a 'mistake'?
I would point out that her term for 'lie' is 'mistake'.

Look closely, do you see 'mistake' in the Thesaurus?

No, mistakes are errors. Intentional 'errors' are not mistakes. They are lies.

Of course, all politicians will lie. We all know that to be true.

A pathological liar is unable to discern between either.

Any lie can be truth until it's found out.

A candidate must be a man/woman of the people.

For Obama, though, you wouldn't want to have a beer with him at a bowling alley. :)
