One of his aides should have told him to line his ball up on the guide marks at the start of the lane. He looked like he was "aiming" at the pins. And move over a bit if you keep heading for the same place in the same damn gutter!

Either that, or they should have had him bowl with a few six year olds. That way, they could have put the inflatable bumpers in the gutters, and he could have had a decent score AND appeared to give a shit about kids....

I stink too, but an old USN CPO on a military league many, many years back gave me those few tips I mentioned above (I ended up on the league, back when I was a JO, because I allowed myself to be suckered in--they were desperate for one more person to qualify for the league, and when they asked, I said sure--but I DID warn them that I stunk).

The good thing was, I started out bowling a humiliating hundred and change, which lowered the team average, and upped our handicap, but with that CPO telling me what to do, I gradually got --not good, but -- sorta OK. I wasn't a disgrace, at any rate. My best game was a 270 in the finals, which helped clinch the win. We felt very proud of ourselves, because we were a rather motley bunch with no extra team members, and we handed it to the USAF!

As for Obama and Casey, they should have had a couple of constituents give the two of them lessons, rather than let them toss clunker after clunker into the gutter. Hell, if he'd taken a side step to the left when he tossed that thing, he'd probably have gotten a strike or two--he was just approaching the lane totally wrong!

If you can get the ball down to the pins, you can learn to bowl. Just pay attention to the marks on the lane closest to you, and use those--not those pins--as your guide!

I haven't bowled in many years, but I used to like it, too. It was a nice occasion to meet up with and chat with people, it was very social and companionable, and it made for a nice change. I still have the custom ball, shoes, towels and what not--oh, and a trophy, too! Bwahahahaha!

Not bad for a novice, he needed to keep his arms straight to the arrow, not crossing his body, and he would have done better than 37. He also needs to bend his knees a little bit since I know he is tall at 6'2".

That's my opinion. You can take it or leave it.

EDIT: Also, the bowling ball may not be right for him. Obama's a lefty, and it's REALLY difficult to find a left-hand capable house ball. (I've seen lefty bowl, and it's REALLY difficult - Parker Bohn III is a professional lefty, and I'm still amazed how he does his stuff)

I like that he's willing to play, suck, and be a good sport. I've always sucked at sports, but have played softball with co-workers once. It was a great experience. My coworkers were great about.
